The line between a “good” hitter and a “great” hitter is subjective. I don’t think he’s a great hitter either. I think there are only a handful of great hitters in baseball.
I am not impressed with the Sox medical staff over the years. Cora apparently said it’s a matter of pain tolerance, that he has an injury that isn’t likely to get worse.
But you could be right.
Let me put it this way: if he does have a shoulder injury he shouldn’t be playing.
Devers is a good hitter. He hasn’t been playing well for a long time, and that’s consistent with being injured.
We’ve been told he has a shoulder injury. Obviously I haven’t examined him. Maybe he’s doing the best he can but it hurts like hell. His performance has certainly been consistent with an injury.
We’re the diehard of the diehards. Even Middlebrooks who just last night said winning the game was “critical” has finally given up.
I’d say it’s critical that we lose this game and as many of our remaining debacles as possible.
Please get Devers out of the lineup! I wonder how management would feel if he screwed up his shoulder putting him out for some or all of next year. Really stupid decision leaving him in there.
