  1. You don't know how high Cohen would have gone. Neither do I. And we will now never find out. The point is not that we lost out on any single FA because of Henry's budget. Its that we seem to lose out on ALL of them over the last few years, and the results are easy to see in our many last place or just out of the playoff finishes. Henry hired Bloom to get the budget under control, and that is what he did. Claiming last year that they were going "full throttle" was a bald faced lie. At least they could admit that they are going to budget like a small market team rather than lie to the fans. Who was the last highly talented high priced FA we signed? Not traded for.....signed.
  2. There seems to be a limit on how much we could bid for Sasaki. Was there such a limit on Soto?
  3. They BID 700M knowing that it wouldn't be enough. Its a common tactic from this ownership.
  4. I found this: "Is everyone in? Because Sasaki is beholden to the rules of the international signing period and bonus pools, there is a more level playing field than for other free agent signings. It’s been made clear that the bonus Sasaki receives to sign will not be the determining factor. The most any team could theoretically offer is just more than $7.5 million that eight teams (the A’s, Brewers, Mariners, Marlins, Rays, Reds, Tigers, Twins) have in their '25 pools. " https://www.mlb.com/news/roki-sasaki-free-agent-favorites Why not then offer the maximum amount that is possible within the rules? If we then lose out we cannot blame Henry. But if they don't max out then you can bet I WILL blame Henry.
  5. Sure it is. Remember: the team has claimed to be "very interested" in Sasaki, like a whole lot of other talented players they never get.
  6. Henry is a multi-BILLIONAIRE. He can outbid just about anyone for Sasaki if he wanted to. He's not interested in making the team competitive. He's interested in making money. I get that that is his right. But as fans no one should be going to the park or buying Red Sox products until there is evidence he's serious about making the team relevant.
  7. He's another reclamation project, not a quality SP the likes of which we need to become relevant. Henry is trying to do it on the cheap AGAIN. Where's Burnes? Or that Japanese ace who was just posted? More mediocrity......
  8. Exactly. This is another dumpster dive. Their needs haven't changed a bit with this signing: at least one more very good hitting RH bat (read: Hernandez) and at least one more high quality SP (Burnes would be fine). Get out your purse Henry-or sell the team!
  9. Anthony is a prospect. Nothing more. Crochet is an upgrade no doubt. But we need more to be relevant (ie play October baseball). Ownership promised “full throttle” last year and this year bellowed that they would spend up to and over the LT limit. Last year was another dumpster dive. What have they spent so far? Crickets as far as I can tell. ACTIONS! Not meaningless hollow words!
  10. I was exaggerating a bit. I think we should still finish ahead of the Jays but the Rays are always competitive. Unless we sign a bona fide RH power hitter like Hernandez and a very good SP we will not sniff the playoffs again, mostly because Henry is STILL penny pinching as he goes "full throttle up to and exceeding the spending limit". Its still early. Those moves could still be made. But until they are made I'll believe nothing has changed. BTW, has everyone seen that the team is "very interested" in Saski? Interpretation: if he can be had for a lowball price he's more than welcome to join the roster.
  11. We got worse. How many players did we lose this offseason so far?
  12. That sound fine but I’ll believe Henry doesn’t dumpster dive AGAIN for talent. Burnes>Pivetta (we aren’t getting Saski) Hernandez>Bregman Blow this and we’re a last place team again!
  13. The window for the Yankees to win a ring is closing. I wish them lots of luck, all of it bad.
  14. See Old Red's post. Henry and his team are all talk until his actions prove otherwise. He's been unwilling to spend for top FAs for years and we haven't smelled October baseball since....when? I can't even remember. But I remember all those LAST PLACE finishes. Its time for him to PAY for some quality FAs. They are still out there-Burnes and Hernandez, to mention two.
  15. I believe he already had one TJ didn’t he? That’s a risk with every pitcher nowadays. My concern is that he’s got a very small track record. Still, it’s a chance we had to take since Henry was too cheap to pay for Fried.
  16. He was paid what it took to sign him. No doubt at the end of his contract it will look bad but if he helps win a ring or two it’s worth it. Meanwhile the Flops have SUCKED for years-and it’s getting old.
  17. I suspect even the Yankees have a limit. Henry is a multimillionaire. He’s paid for talent in the past and it would be nice to see that again.
  18. What I PREFER is not giving away our future for the sake of penny pinching. Henry has claimed that we’ll be spending this year up to and maybe over the LT. Teel could flame out for us but now that’s not possible. We traded him to the WS so we didn’t have to pay Fried. If they open their purses and pay for a good RHB and a good SP without trading away more prospects I’ll admit I’m wrong about ownership. Until then I’ll believe it when I see it.
  19. And Crochet could be a flash in the pan, a one season wonder. Don't forget: Crochet has just one good season as a SP so far. I'd have rather paid Fried and saved Teel as our future catcher-unless they open their wallets for Hernandez and another quality SP. This relative penny pinching is getting old.
  20. Agreed. I believe one more quality SP plus a good RHB and we could compete for a playoff berth.
  21. It really hasn’t. The team hasn’t opened up their wallets for any significant FAs. They’re still trying to do it on the cheap.
  22. It wouldn’t have costed us any prospects if they had bit the bullet and paid Fried.
