  1. I was hoping we could hang onto Teel. But to get a top flight proven pitcher it was never going to be cheap. Do we have anyone decent to replace Wong? Or are we stuck with him. if we had gone all in on Fried we could have kept Teel. They’re still trying to do it on the cheap. And we still need a good RH bat like Hernandez and another good SP.
  2. I have no doubt that they were “interested” in the top FAs-but only at the kind of rock bottom prices that would never get the job done. Last season they were at #12 in payroll in MLB. Given the fact that they have turned into a s*** franchise, if they are honest about wanting to turn it around the purse strings must be loosened and the decisions have to greatly improve. I see no evidence of that happening. So I expect at best mediocrity for the foreseeable future.
  3. Henry publicly said a few years ago that he wanted to cut payroll-then he hired Bloom a former Rays exec to do it.. And we all know how the Rays handle payroll. Now they claim they’ll be spending, even into the LT. They’re lying to us.
  4. I could live with a couple of years of rebuilding. A 6 year rebuild means that management has screwed up. It’s not even so much that the money hasn’t been spent (though that’s part of it)-it’s that the personnel decisions haven’t been wise. Unless we miraculously upgrade our pitching by a lot it’s going to be another crap year.
  5. No doubt. But this team should be competitive nearly every year. Not WS contenders necessarily, but playoff contenders, not last place teams. Now Eovaldi is even gone. He just signed with the Rangers. The fans need to show up on day one and turn their backs on the team from the stands and bend over in unison. Maybe then Henry will understand that we deserve better.
  6. It’s getting old
  7. Henry stated a couple of years ago that he wanted to get the payroll down. They’re now middle third. He hired management to get it done, and they did. And it persists today. The franchise has turned into a huge dung heap. When was the last time we were truly competitive? At the very least Henry and his lackeys need to be honest with the fans. They don’t care about winning, only making money.
  8. We should begin to compile a list of who the the Flops were “interested in”…so far it’s Fried, Soto, Adames…and I hear they’re “interested in” Bregman and Crochet too. Where’s the nearest dumpster again? SELL THE TEAM HENRY!!
  9. Fried signed with the Yankees. While Henry played the fiddle. Same story. ”Full throttle”
  10. Well then.....its settled.
  11. Dead or not he's probably better than what we have now. 😉
  12. If all Henry can do is present the same pile of dung to the fans of the Red Sox he should just sell the team. I know that is not going to happen.. Maybe we should be satisfied with what we are being fed because it appears that the definition of "full throttle" is becoming clear.
  13. He can't play RF because he isn't a member of the team as far as I know. In fact the team has acquired NO ONE of note at all so far. Yes, its still early, but other teams have made progress. You would think that ownership would want to be much more aggressive at improving what has become a crap team for years.
  14. Yeah Why not just sit tight and sign a retread dumpster denizen or two? Hate to say it but this franchise is starting to SUCK.
  15. For that money I’m glad we didn’t get him. Even more glad the Yankees didn’t get him either. Their window is closing and still no rings. Problem is, I have no reason to believe that full throttle this year is going to be any different than full throttle last year. If we can land two great SPs I’d be happy.
  16. Agreed. We still need some major improvements but you can’t handcuff yourself for a decade by paying one guy such a huge amount of your budget. I’d rather pay a couple of very good SPs a lot of money than one great hitter.
  17. I am astonishingly cynical. But I have a little history to back me up. Last year management claimed they were going “full throttle “ to field a relevant team. And when was the last time we even sniffed the playoffs? At some point you have to look at what management DOES rather than the side shows and cheap talk. Are we going to see a competitive team this year? I’ll believe it when I see it.
  18. These numbers that are getting bandied about are just astronomical. I mean, how much money does one person (or family) really need? Will $675M make you more happy than $550M? At some point one would think that factors other than money will decide because the money is more than enough for many lifetimes. Unfortunately, I don't think that Boston is a desirable location for baseball players any more. They want money, but they also want to win. And the tax structure in MA certainly isn't the best, to say the obvious.
  19. My guess is that said meeting is to relay to Borass and Soto a final offer, not to listen to what it would take to get to "yes". With Hernandez rumored to returning to LA the number of good bats out there to bolster the offense is dwindling. As I said, I would prefer they invest in better pitching. BTW, I had an orange tree that turned into a pomelo tree. Apparently the root stock for the tree was pomelo and eventually it just took over. I didn't realize that you have to stay on top of it and cut down the pomelo shoots as they appear.
  20. Henry IS one of the big boys. He's a billionairre with an estimated net worth of $6,000,000,000 (six BILLION dollars). He is apparently tired of spending like a big boy. A couple of years ago he declared that he wanted to get the budget under control, which is his right. Last year the Sox were 12th (middle third) after years of being much higher. Truth is, its not so much that the spending isn't there: its HOW the money has been spent. Dumpster diving is not going to make the team relevant again.
  21. What makes you think that the meeting, if it happens, isn't just for show?
  22. I don't mind not getting Soto-unless the Yankees get him. Our need is pitching. We need one or two top flight SPs to become relevant again and we need our existing RPs to pitch a lot better. Not so worried about our offense. One good RH bat and I think we are OK as long as we get better pitching.
  23. That would depend on whether or not Henry knew that $675M/15 would not get the deal done. If he makes the offer knowing it would be refused I'd still believe that Henry doesn't know what the words "full throttle" actually mean. Personally, I am skeptical that we will land ANY of the big names, given the recent history of the team dumpster diving.
  24. What are you worried about? We just added Zavala and Eaton!!! Our season looks so much brighter now! 🙄
  25. I believe that Henry is all talk (remember "full throttle"?). He isn't going to shell out that kind of money for Soto or for anyone else. Unfortunately the Flops are going to have to pay a premium now to obtain top flight FA talent. Boston is not a desired destination. The players know that Henry is on a cost cutting mission and they are in it, for the most part, to get paid.
