  1. Yeah, his D doesnt make up for that much bad O. I would REALLY, REALLY like to see him do better. He was my choice for a player I wanted to see do well. Honestly, other than a better outfield I still think we needed and still need better starting pitching. Buch is a surprise disappointment but even if he did well, was Peavey AND Lackey going to be great?
  2. I wanted Drew in the beginning of the year, and still think it wouldve been the right thing to do at the time, but questioned it when they finally did because it seemed like we were turning the page. Having said that, I dont think Drew should be taking the blame for this, its kind of team wide.
  3. Now I see why its hard to repeat. For one thing youve got all these teams wanting revenge and on the other I get the feeling like the Sox feel entitled to win, like theyre still living off of last years success. I dont mind so much losing to teams like the Tigers but its losing and getting swept by Cleveland and in the previous losing streak, the Twins that give me the feeling they just expect to win and werent hungry enough to start the season.
  4. Theres no use in predicting what Holt will do, why not just wait and see? If anything we may win more games that we mightve lost with Drew getting his rhythm, which might be the games that hinges us getting into the playoffs. In other words theres no rush to do anything RIGHT NOW. Anyways if Drew wanted to be our SS he should've taken the QO. Since he didn't we don't owe him anything and should ride what is working.
  5. I agree, lets see how far Holt takes us. He not only deserves it but he could be as good as he is showing...I don't know (yeah I said it). However, I feel getting Drew was still a good move. Hes a good insurance plan in case Holt doesn't work out. Whatever you say about Drews stats, he is good at the ultimate stat, Contributor-Of-World-Series-Win. But to muddy the waters even more, Cecchini looked great.
  6. Its certainly nothing panic worthy. XB looks like he is a natural talent whose confidence wont be shattered by this move or that. As long as hes playing.
  7. If you put Drew at 3rd youre making 3rd base a weakness to our team because 3rd is a less demanding a position than SS, and because of that is supposed to be made up with a bat, which Drew wont do, which makes him a liability. So if we keep XB at SS then we need a better 3rd baseman than Drew. Might as well call up Ceccini and do it right. As I said its a conundrum but this decision of getting Drew was made during our biggest losing streak in 20 years. Now that we're making up for that Ill just say it should be interesting what our next choices will be. I mean we're not even talking about Holt.
  8. But what about 3rd? Thats what this is mostly about. I guess Drew could play 3rd but normally you give the better batter 3rd.
  9. Im such a big fan of having a solid defense and with Drew back we may be better than last year, the difference being JBJ in CF. Thisll give our pitching a shot in the arm. Feel bad for XB seeing that hes been nothing but good but having a fields worth of good defending is more important than individual accomplishments. And XB should be at 3rd because hes the better bat.
  10. Its a conundrum with Holt doing so well but may I add that your not wanting Drew in the offseason had nothing to do with this predicament and everything to do with your prediction of WMB doing well. WMB went down and wasnt doing that well before he went down so Farrell and Cherington went to plan B and got the player the pitchers wanted the whole time. No one predicted Holt would be doing this good so lets not pretend we did.
  11. It was only made because of WMB's injury and from that standpoint, what else could we have done? Personally I like the move and wanted it all along. Yes this stops XB's development at SS, and yes I think he is our SS of the future, if only because Ceccinni is our future 3rd baseman and we'll want both players, but I think we should keep a winning team on the field while rebuilding and Drew helps with that. Does it help with our offense? Not really but Im thinking the FO believes itll turn itself around.
  12. XB in LF to make room for Cecchini? Interesting.
  13. If it does turn out to be an aberration, remember for the umteenth time, we were supposed to be in rebuilding mode and still are. Talk to us in a season or three. Also remember Mr Yankee that while your gloating, were still the champs.
  14. I dont think Salty would have solved our problem, though, unlike so many, didnt want him gone.
  15. Im not ready to throw in towel yet. Its just nice to know we have a future in waiting if it all goes south. It does seem like the WS has split the teams goals in half in trying to win another one while rebuilding, but Im definitely willing to give this team a fair chance.
  16. It is worrying but Im still hoping we'll get it together. If not lets reboot the whole operation with our prospects. At least if we're losing then itll be while seeing the rookies grow. I certainly dont want to start spending a bunch of money like the Yankees to solve this problem.
  17. If we dont straighten out, why not? Lets accelerate the future.
  18. This is a good point. Giving three newbies a chance all at once may have been too much of a leap in one offseason, especially after a WS victory. For one its a bit unfair to the veterans who want to ride the wave THEY started but also the pressure to perform on the newbies, because of the WS victory, is that much more beyond the normal pressure a rookie would feel.
  19. I thought you wanted to give the new guys a chance and not get Drew and Sizemore? That dead horse tells me so.
  20. True BUT, if we wait til panic time then it might be too late or our reaction to the panic might be out desperation which doesnt bring about good results in theory. Maybe what we could do now is buy us another insurance arm, one that could either start or come from the bullpen. Another Aceves.
  21. What do you mean by "the fallacy of clutch persists" and how do you get stats for only pressure situations?
  22. What about RBI's? Sure it is dependent on other players but it also highlights that a player knows how to work a pitcher when the pitcher is in a vulnerable position unlike OPS. Not checking stats but that seems to be the difference between Papi and A-Rod. One plays his best when everything is on the line and the other does his best when nothing is on the line.
  23. I would like to see BA w/RISP as a major stat. Seems important to me.
