  1. Up to a point. I understand that it would be bad for Cherington to say, "I didn't want him" to a player like Panda but some owners can drag a team down for decades and the GM, by association with it. Not to mention the players and the most taken for granted, the fans.
  2. I agree. I thought the red sox were rebuilding to be strong defensively to help pitching, this way we could save on paying for high price pitchers. I'm not seeing how Sandoval and Ramirez fit this strategy.
  3. Yes, last year it was hitting but this year its pitching. And its not like the rotation was supposed to be great and just let us down, they tried to go cheap. Why demolish what was good about last year to fix what was bad? You stay the same. Consequently if you do finally get a decent rotation through these prospects and cheap diamonds in the rough, Hanley and Pandas contracts will be up and we'll be back to square one. This is why getting Panda and Hanley makes no sense. It reeks of desperation.
  4. I think the plan is the same as 2013 which is to build through the farm and bolster with veterans. Unlike 2013 though they didn't bolster it with quality character guys that would make for a good locker room. They also didn't get any pitchers like Lackey. I must also say that the WS win is screwing us a little right now. If we didn't have that we would still have Iglesias, which would have XB at third and Iglesias at SS. However we totally fd ourselves by not signing Lester. With Lester and Buch things would be so different.
  5. Not keeping Lester was the ultimate s*** move and someone should've been fired just for that. That move alone makes hoping a hard thing to do. Getting Hanley and Sandoval reinforced this thinking for me. Yes they are good players but they represent winning now wheras all your other moves represent building for the future, not now. They get rid of Lester but acquire Sandoval, Hanley and Porcello. Huh? Not only does it not make sense but you get rid of a beloved figure who has been as steady a player as can be, doesn't get injured, was willing to take a home town cut and had plenty of years on him. Instead we get a player who we already kicked off the team years before in Hanley and Sandoval who talked s*** to his ex team the Giants. Hanley can't play D which I thought was a priority. The whole thing just makes no sense.
  6. If this is Cheringtons doing he needs to be fired. Big "if". I say that because some of the decisions could be coming from ownership. If not, he should be fired for not sticking to his guns he started getting rid of A Gon and Beckett. It was a great and ballsy move that led to a WS win. After that, not so good, but it doesn't make sense to give up on a plan and return to the way things were after only one bad year. One bad year does not make for a failed plan. How many times have we seen a player not do well the first year only to find it the next? My theory is that Cheri is not being allowed to fail before he succeeds and the result is a split plan that isn't winning nor is it having a future to look foward to. Its half assing. Its band aiding. Its going against the wisdom of every WS winner of the last decade.
  7. Can't stand Lucchino. The spring training after the WS, he was talking major smack about the Yankees in the press. We then commenced to suck and now the Yankees are in first place.
  8. I wonder though how much is ownership tinkering.
  9. Is it the goal to win WS or keep seats filled? Both is ideal but paying too much attention to the latter at the expense of the former might give us neither, or we'll have full capacity watching s***. The Cubs paid the price for rebuilding without shortcuts but now they're looking good. I can see why Lester went there. I mean if were going to be in last place we might as well be building from the inside out instead of doing it expensively.
  10. We had a great farm system, got rid of all our high priced contracts and were flush with cash. We then smartly spent that money on veterans, underrated players and Napoli, who was supposed to be tailor made for Fenway. This was all geared toward the future. Unfortunately we won a World Series on the way. I say its unfortunate because we lost sight of our original goal, that of rebuilding. And because of that WS win we had to put any of these rebuilding plans on hold to see if it could happen again. It didn't. I think its high time we give that original plan the chance it was meant to have and stop loading up on the new version of our Crawford's and Gonzales's that being Panda and Ramirez and Hammel,.
  11. I was more impressed with Vasquez than Swihart in the limited amount I saw of both. But sure, wait for Vasquez to prove himself again before making any kind of decision.
  12. If JBJ's last stint is indicative of his future, problem solved. XB didn't look too good either there for awhile. If JBJ works out we have a pretty good core of young players. Christian Vasquez too when he gets healthy. What I'm saying is that, like the Astros, we can expect to suck for awhile while we get our s*** together. That way the pressure is lessened too and we can build team chemistry. As for pitching, didn't we trade some of our prospects away for some offense that didn't pan out? Those pitchers could have figured some things out by now.
  13. I'm glad we have kept the farm system intact now lets build a team with it, but do it with D and pitching first and foremost and be prepared to go through growing pains. I like Hanigan and D Aza. Those are the kind of signings we could make while we're rebuilbing. I didnt think Ramirez or Sandoval were a step in the right direction. Talented yes but looked like more impatience by the FO.
  14. Yes they did but the official gamble of only doing it with the farm system only started a few seasons ago. Before that they sucked because they weren't facing facts and were band aiding everything.
  15. I'm sorry but I look the Astros and how they completely built themselves from the farm system and look at them now, young, winning, with lots of cash to spare. They did it right...like I thought we were doing. Unfortunately red sox fans and probably the owners don't do patience, they'll demand someone's head if they don't have it yesterday.
  16. No they had it because theyre trying to turn around the season. I hope it works but what Im talking about is the overreaction to last year. We won a WS with quality pitching, starting and bullpen and D and because of a horrible year, last year we throw everything away. Yes our offense sucked but pitching and D should have still been a priority. They made a mistake with bringing in too many prospects, ok, admit it and learn from it, dont freak out and act like we didnt also win a WS two years ago.
  17. Reactionary mode indeed. Its the Sox MO. People'd like to put it on the head of Cherington but in reality its the salivating Red Sox fans and their demanding ways that are the culprit.
  18. He was brought up because we lost Middlebrooks to injury and Jose Iglesias to a trade for Peavey. In hindsight the RS plan of rebuilding through prospects may have been rushed. Not wrong but rushed. Too many prospects too soon with not enough time in AAA.
  19. I dont think Vasquez is going anywhere. The WEEI broadcast really talk him up as being a special catcher. He seems to have it when it comes to defense and calling a game. Swihart will make excellent trade bait for a big bat.
  20. Bunt??? On a two game hitting streak and he bunts?
  21. Next step after saving money for more bargain players is to give it back to the fans by lowering prices.............Hahahahahaha, sorry I couldnt keep a straight face for that long.
  22. We need at least 2 mlb seasoned starting pitchers next season. To count on all prospects and Buchholz is pure madness. We also need some more bullpen.
  23. Hindsight my butt. As rough as Buchholz has been Farrell shouldve been happy for what he got up to the seventh.
  24. Yeah Pedroia!!! Theres alot of Red Sox fans.
  25. Maybe he IS coming back. They use him to get a good player on the cheap, promise a healthy contract if he returns and let him play on a winning team.
