  1. I got the impression that Cespedes didn't want to be here. If Porcello has a break out year this could be a big trade for the Sox. If he can be a top of the rotation pitcher this would a plus. If Cespedes has a big year with the Tiger he probably prices himself out of there because they have so much money tied up in other players. I read somewhere that Porcello and his Dad are remodeling a house in Vermont so it might be easy for the Sox to sign the 26 year old if he works out.
  2. Panda needs to come up big. He got big $$$$ and the Sox need both the O and the D from him. Sox got little pop out of 3B last year and with all of the ground ball pitchers his glove has to be up to the task.
  3. Kelly has the tools to be a very good starter, but has yet to fully show them. He could be in the Sox opening day starter rotation, or if the Sox do make a trade for a true number 1 he could be one of the pieces going back.
  4. Sounds like the Sox will fill any holes they have in the pen with some of the kids in the system. With no true ace the pen will have to come up big in 2015.
  5. Word has it the Giants are in the lead for him. Not sure Shields plays well in Fenway. You look at his numbers when he pitches there and I'm not a fan of bringing him a board for 4 or 5 years. Unless you can get him on the shot (No happening) I gotta pass on him.
  6. Three championships in ten years. I'll take that every day. As much as I wanted Lester back, we all know these huge long term contracts never work out. Even with Lester the Cubs' kids are not ready to win yet. I could see where when they are ready to dominate the National League Lester will no longer be their ace. I think the changes the Sox have made this winter and that no team in the AL East is looking dominate they should be able to compete for a spot in the playoffs.
  7. I think Napoli is going to have a big year with the bat. There is extra protection in the lineup, and his power bat still plays well in Fenway. Remember he is solid with the glove and with the ground ball pitchers now on the staff that is a plus. Between the finger issue and the sleep problem he struggled last year. We know he can play in Boston and I think he will come up big in 2015. Its also a contract year.
  8. It would surprise the s*&^ out of me if the Sox went hard after Max. Who is going to be the team to break the bank to get him? $panks say no? Tigers? Rangers? Did the Dodgers dump Kemp to make a run?
  9. So far Castillo has shown that the skills are there to be a good player with the Sox. How good of a player won't be determined until we see him every day in April, May and June. The Sox need him to be sound in the OF and have good ABs where he helps an already improved lineup. Everything you here says that he is a hard worker and a good teammate.
  10. The only thing left for BC to get is a number one starter. I think the Sox will be patient and let the demands being asked for come down. The idea of giving up Betts and Swihart for Hamels isn't flying right now. The price for Zimmermann is also to high currently. I could see the Sox open the season with what they have and potentially make a deal for one of these guys before the trade deadline in July. I think if all are healthy the Sox do have a bunch of 2s and 3s starters. I don't think a team can win in the playoffs unless a number 1 emerges in the playoffs though. So even if this staff success during the season, I'm not sure it could repeat that in the playoffs.
  11. WMB had no value right now to anyone. After two down seasons the trade BC made filled a need for the Sox. He got a lefty hitting catcher that is good handling pitchers, throwing out runners, and is good defensively. Because of the improved lineup the Sox don't need a lot of hitting from the catching position, but they do need someone who going to keep their pitchers in the game. WMB's potential at some point has to turn into production, and with the Panda now at 3B it wasn't going to be in Boston.
  12. This is why I don't want the Sox to trade him. Unless you could get Sale from the wrong Sox I would not move Swihart.
  13. True fans don't root for the names on the back of the uniform, but the name on the front. Everyone wants BC to get a #1 NOW, but waiting and being patient might lower the asking price for some of these number 1s.
  14. The three pitchers the Sox picked up are all innings eaters. The Sox need to hope both Bucholz and Masterson are healthy and return to 2013 form. Porcello and Kelly continue to grow, and Miley's 2014 season was a bump in the road. If the magic of 2013 season returns then all of things will occur.
  15. Sox go into the season with the starting staff they have unless they sign Shields, trade for Zimmermann, or Phillies lower their asking price.
  16. I could see the Sox go into the season with the SPs they have and have a lot of economic freedom during the season when maybe a trade for a number one becomes more reasonable. Some of the starters who become FAs at the end of the season become a little more reasonable to get.
  17. I don't think the Sox want anything to do with the extra year Hamel wants guaranteed to drop his no trade clause to the Sox. Stephen Drew - that ship has already sailed.
  18. We can only hope. They will not eat ARod's contract or they would have done so already. ARod showing up in Florida and the whole circus environment that will follow is all plus for the Sox. Jeter knew!
  19. Or sign Ramirez to replace him in LF and then trade him for a starter.
  20. I think there is something to bringing back Ross on the cheap if Lester signs. They will not have to spend big $$$$$ in doing so, and by July I think Swihart will be ready if the Ross thing doesn't work. There is enough added O to cover for a catcher hitting 9th (Vazquez or Ross). If he gives you just a little more with the bat he is a plus, because everything else he brings is A+.
  21. Panda says he wants to a 3B the length of his contract. Lets hope he is serious and hires a personal trainer and a personal cook with his new big dollar contract. I think the Sox showed him their confidence by over paying him. Now lets see the Panda return the favor and be serious about watching his weight. The guy can hit, and is clutch when the bright lights of post season are on. I think his personality fits Boston and he will produce when he is on the field. He just needs to stay on the field.
  22. Unless he is needed in a trade to bring back a solid starting pitcher I would start him at AAA where you hope he can find a stroke that works for him. With his D you can live with a .250 hitter. He finds his stroke it opens up a lot of options for the Sox.
  23. Unless trading him brings back a solid starting pitcher I would not move him. He is in a walk year and has a lot to prove because of his injury full 2014 season. He has performed in the bright lights of Boston and will benefit from the added bats to the lineup. Plus he gives you solid D at 1B. I think with the sleep thing taken care of he is primed for a big 2015 season.
  24. I like Zimmermann to, but a trade for him would involve Betts because the Nats are set in the OF. I would say a trade for another pitcher happens after the Lester situation is taken care. Whether or not Lester signs will determine who they target for the other starter they need. I think that pitcher comes from the Reds, Mariners or Padres.
  25. I like the Ramirez bat for the lineup. Probably the best FA hitter on the market. As far as playing OF a couple of things. 1) It was his idea and probably the reason BC went hard after him. 2) Last season we had a couple of athletic IFs who learned how to play the OF. Ramirez believes this will be easier on the body then playing SS so HE wants to make the change. SS are athletic enough to make the transition to the OF. There are so many examples of this. I think he also likes the idea of playing with Papi and the Panda in Boston.
