  1. Its like the Sox got another number one draft pick. His size will probably move him to the outfield. To keep him away from the Spanks is just icing on the cake.
  2. I think Sox have a good chance at the AL East. Tampa post Madden era will struggle, Baltimore will take a step back, and age continues to be $pankees problem. I think Toronto will be the Sox biggest obstacle. If Sox are there in July BC will go out an get a front line pitcher. They will be around 90 wins and play meaningful games in September.
  3. The Sox will be as good as their starting pitching. I still believe that BC will get an ace mid-season to support a competitive team. I'm not saying the Sox will make the playoffs, but they will be more competitive then the 2014 version. I think the AL East being wide open will help the Sox.
  4. The Cards are one of the model franchises in the sport and are competitive year after year. The Cubs enter the season with a lot of youth which means a lot of things have to go right for them to be in contention come September. The Sox learned last year when you expect big things out of your younger players it doesn't always happen. Cubs with be an improved team this year, but will fall short of making the playoffs.
  5. Excited about the potential of Vazquez in 2015, and Swihart down the road. These guys are being compared to some of the best catchers in the last decade. Some are comparing Swihart to Posey. I've seen him play and he looks like the real deal.
  6. Healthy Ramirez in 2015 will put up big numbers in Fenway. Can't wait until pitchers and catchers.
  7. A lot depends who shows up. If the beginning of 2013 Buchholz and a healthy Masterson show up then the staff won't be as bad as some worry that it could be. Granted this team still needs an ace to make any playoff run.
  8. H-O-F voting is flawed when a pitcher who dominated his era is left off some ballets. Congrats Pedro! Every time he toed the rubber it was an event.
  9. If the FO was basing their decisions on the message boards then Lester would still be here. As much as I wanted Lester to stay, I think the offer made to Lester was fair. The Cubs had to over pay to get him.
  10. If Sox offense is as productive as being predicted, then the staff as made up will allow them to compete in a weaker AL East where teams lack that dominate pitcher. If Masterson and Buchholz can return to what they were in 2013 the Sox staff should be good enough to allow them to compete in the AL East.
  11. If healthy he would give the Sox a power arm in the pen. That is something they lack. I think he is one of those guys who hurt his arm when the Rangers tried to make him a starter. For the right price I would take a flyer on him.
  12. The Sox will add another starter sometime during 2015. Right now the demands for any of the mentioned starters (Hamels, Zimmermann, etc.) are too high. I think Sox start season with the staff they have now, but by the July trading deadline they will acquire someone. They will be able to compete in AL East because of the flaws of all of the teams, but the need for a number will have to be filled if a run at the playoffs is going to happen.
  13. With the Sox trading for Hanigan to be the lefty hitting backup to Vazquez it looks like the Sox are now set to wait for when Swihart is ready. When does anyone think we will see Swihart in Boston?
  14. Remember a lot of those Giants teams had weak offenses. The Panda was asked to do more to help the Giants score. Plus this guy always comes up big in the post season.
  15. I kind of figured that Miller had priced himself out of coming back to Boston, but the $pankees. Hopefully, it was the beard that gave him strength to pitch so well and without the beard he goes back to the starter Miller who struggled to throw strikes.
  16. Papi is the reason why I think this works out for the Sox. Ramirez has a lot to prove and Papi will keep his head strait if he struggles a little.
  17. Napoli's power bat at 1B. He is primed for a big year with the added protection.
  18. I got the impression that Cespedes didn't want to be here. If Porcello has a break out year this could be a big trade for the Sox. If he can be a top of the rotation pitcher this would a plus. If Cespedes has a big year with the Tiger he probably prices himself out of there because they have so much money tied up in other players. I read somewhere that Porcello and his Dad are remodeling a house in Vermont so it might be easy for the Sox to sign the 26 year old if he works out.
  19. Panda needs to come up big. He got big $$$$ and the Sox need both the O and the D from him. Sox got little pop out of 3B last year and with all of the ground ball pitchers his glove has to be up to the task.
  20. Kelly has the tools to be a very good starter, but has yet to fully show them. He could be in the Sox opening day starter rotation, or if the Sox do make a trade for a true number 1 he could be one of the pieces going back.
  21. Sounds like the Sox will fill any holes they have in the pen with some of the kids in the system. With no true ace the pen will have to come up big in 2015.
  22. Word has it the Giants are in the lead for him. Not sure Shields plays well in Fenway. You look at his numbers when he pitches there and I'm not a fan of bringing him a board for 4 or 5 years. Unless you can get him on the shot (No happening) I gotta pass on him.
  23. Three championships in ten years. I'll take that every day. As much as I wanted Lester back, we all know these huge long term contracts never work out. Even with Lester the Cubs' kids are not ready to win yet. I could see where when they are ready to dominate the National League Lester will no longer be their ace. I think the changes the Sox have made this winter and that no team in the AL East is looking dominate they should be able to compete for a spot in the playoffs.
  24. I think Napoli is going to have a big year with the bat. There is extra protection in the lineup, and his power bat still plays well in Fenway. Remember he is solid with the glove and with the ground ball pitchers now on the staff that is a plus. Between the finger issue and the sleep problem he struggled last year. We know he can play in Boston and I think he will come up big in 2015. Its also a contract year.
  25. It would surprise the s*&^ out of me if the Sox went hard after Max. Who is going to be the team to break the bank to get him? $panks say no? Tigers? Rangers? Did the Dodgers dump Kemp to make a run?
