    With Sox winter shopping list complete the question that needs to be asked, when do catchers and pitchers report? Lets get this thing started!

    Boggs inducted into Red Sox H-O-F in 2004, Baseball H-O-F in 2005, and spent at least ten years of his career in Boston. He was a pure hitter that made himself a descent third basemen. The Sox changed their guidelines which says that the player has to end his career in Boston. I think his number retiring is deserved and has some meaning. First, the Sox have been bringing back a lot of their former stars to work in the system. This may mean that Boggs will have a roll in the Sox organization. Second, the FO may realize that the days of a player spending his whole career in one town are not going to happen that often in the future. As far as the horse riding image, it should of been in a Sox uniform in 1986. The one weird thing is that so many have worn the number since he left, while how many have worn Clemons number since he left?

    How can a guy go from one of the top set up guys in baseball to out of baseball? The problem has to be between the ears.

    Cubs got Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan. Warren can be a starter or be used out of the pen. With Zobrist and Baez, Castro became tradeable for Theo.

    Price is the ace the Sox failed to get last off season. What the Braves got for Miller is going to make it hard to up grade the starting rotation any further. D-Backs are all in for 2016.

    Gives the Sox the potential for a deep bullpen to shorten the game. That is the formula the Royals have used.

    That is why Sox walked away from Chapman. Plus Chapman would walk after a year.

    .250 with his glove he would be great. Unless traded JBJ will start in CF in 2016.

    I agree. Any upgrade in the staff will come via a trade. Do you keep three lefties in your starting rotation or do you move Miley.

    Sox have some good young arms in the lower minors that could move in to the rotation when Price opts out after three years. Both Espinosa and Kopech look promising.

    The back up OFs on the rooster are Holt, and Shaw has played some LF. They are both lefties, thus the need for a righty hitting OF. Good power and still plays a decent corner OF.

    The search is complete. They get a top five pitcher in all of baseball with Price. They had to over pay, but they had to get a top of the order starter.

    Relax! Any other SP coming to Boston would come via trade. I think the Sox will look at the Winter Meetings to upgrade their SP, but if they don't I can see them going to Florida with what they got. A huge upgrade from last spring.

    Probably be the idea situation for the Sox. Price has three outstanding seasons and then opts out. Sox wouldn't have to worry about the back end of the contract and by then some of the young arms (Espinosa and Kopech) would be ready.

    Both those prospects are behind players that are 22 and 23 years old. Margot would be stuck behind Betts, and Guerra stuck behind Xander. At some point you have to use your prospects to fill current team needs. Sox needed to upgrade bullpen. Kimbrel is easily a top three closer in baseball. The Royals have gone to two straight WS based on their dominant 7-8-9 inning bullpen guys. This puts us closer to that. You have give up something to get something. Margot and Guerra are 2 to 3 years away from being in the show. If anyone thinks that teams are going to give us top players to fill the Sox needs without getting something back you are dreaming. Finally, you would only have Chapman for a year, while Kimbrel the Sox could have control of for the next three seasons.

    I like the deal. Sox got one of the top power armed closers without giving up Moncada - Benintendi - Espinosa. If Betts ends up in center Margot would be blocked by him. Bogaerts blocks Guerra at short. Carlos Asuaje and Logan Allen are the other two pieces. Asuaje is behind Moncada at 2B on the depth chart and Allen is behind Kopech and Espinosa on the depth chart of young pitchers that are in the low minors. We gave up quality minor leaguers, but no one that is rated tops at their position. If anyone thinks we are going to fix the bullpen and get a number 1 starter and not give up anything they are dreaming.

    The question is: To we spend $$$$ to get a FA ace or do we trade for one?

    He gave up way to many HRs. He will become a FA.

    Yes, but the Dodgers and the Astros offered them the qualifying offer. Those qualifying offers are hurting lower tier FA who do not accept them to. MLB has to take a look at this.

    Some where Bill Buckner was smiling last night when the ball rolled past Murphy and the Mets would eventually loss. Come back Royals did it again.

    Greinke and Cueto I would stay clear of. One would not do well under the scrutiny of the Boston Press and fandom, and the other did not pitch well against AL hitters the second half of the season and had some injury issues. Price would be the first choice, and Zimmermann probably would be a second option if the Price numbers get crazy. Trading for an ace is hard to say, we don't know who is on the market yet. If Sale was made available you would have to make a run at him.

    It seems pitchers have made adjustments to JBJ the last week or so. It is his turn to do the same. There was no way he could keep the same pace, but he has gone ice cold again.

    No. Trying to build a winning culture with the young Sox. Plus their successes the last few months will allow them to gain confidence that will carry over to 2016. Play hard and the right way.

    To move both the Sox would have to eat a lot of $$$$$ or take some ones bad contracts. I can see one being moved, but it would be a miracle if both where.

    All I want for Christmas this year is a true ace without giving up the farm.
