  1. If there are no changes made to that bullpen, it is very likely that Hernandez and Feltman are in it long before people think they are going to be and long before people seem think that they are ready to be.
  2. Are you a mystery in your own mind?
  3. notin - this is a better post than most might think that it is. What you say is the absolute truth. It would be one hell of a decision for some but really a no brainer for others. Possible financial security for the rest of time or take the high road and do what many would suggest to be the right thing? Sadly the people choosing to do the right thing are the people most often taken advantage of today.
  4. My God - good past digging up here. You do pay attention! I guess 10 to 20 million won't do it for some folks.
  5. Are you suggesting that I don't understand what I means? Or are you suggesting that I don't know what I am talking about? A or B but only one is the correct answer -
  6. but... but but but - Before you get too excited, remember that these guys are a by-product of certainly one of the worst farm systems in ml baseball. It has been spoken.
  7. Tom Seaver was the one. I had every pitcher that I ever worked with pay attention to his right knee. It was always covered with dirt. His power came from his lower body. Low man wins!!! It was a real treat watching this man work.
  8. Most posters here I have to think understand the overall purpose of what spring training is all about. But simply writing it off and assuming that it has no relevance is also just a little foolish. There are some fairly serious issues that need to be resolved here. I don't think that the likes of Workman, Valezqueth, Thornburg, are automatic write ins to be on our roster come real game time. Once again I have learned how it works here - My post in no way means that I feel there is some sort of intense contest that needs to be resolved by any member of our team. Oh and by the way, I also think that there is some relevance to all metrics being used. I'm just not a groupie like some of you seem to be - lol
  9. Oh my goodness - Let's go!
  10. sarcasm - Spring training likely has a great deal of meaning for young players trying to make an impression. Every now and then you actually get a couple of veterans trying to solidify their role on a team. Obviously the primary purpose is to get everybody out there to get their work in and hopefully have everyone ready to go when the gun goes off but to simply say that it means nothing is silly. If it meant nothing, it is likely that they wouldn't have it.
  11. is JD a part of a discussion about where Betts should hit in the lineup? Come on Moon. we all want to see JD hit cleanup. It is what the metrics say for gosh sake.
  12. Don't forget - We have all been taught - spring training means absolutely nothing.
  13. hey - maybe next years metrics will have him batting third. Screw the metrics.
  14. Why does that amaze you? With millions upon millions of dollars on the line, it should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that many of these guys would do anything at all to get in on the gravy train.
  15. It is unlikely but yet possible. In most situations of course spring training performance doesn't amount to much but every now and then a nice surprise presents itself. Personally, I really don't think that the names of Valesqu...(whatever) and Johnson are names that are already penciled in to any roster card. Probably, but as much as I like Johnson, neither of these guys makes me utter a sigh of relief filled confidence knowing that they are out there. I think that there is still a little competition in camp. In past years me saying something like this has resulted in a deluge of genius comments explaining to me the insignificance of spring training performances. I'm already quite aware of that.
  16. You obviously have your own strong opinion about what the make up of the catching staff should look like. Most of your arguments do make sense. A lot of this is simply how you choose to see things but I'm not sure that mentioning a potential trade for Carlos Beltran to keep Swihart out of left field (which you have mentioned before) is particularly solid. At the time that possibly bringing Beltran to Boston was discussed, I think that it had more to do with bringing an upgrade to the team in general regardless of who was being considered for left field. A trade for Beltran would have affected anyone being considered for left field - even Benintendi. Beltran was a pretty good player don't you think. Who knows what our catching status is going to be? If any of our current 3 are not with us this season, all will not be lost and the effect on our pitching staff will likely be minimal.
  17. I think that it is actually possible that Hernandez breaks camp with the big club. he could be a hidden gem.
  18. Sale and Cora seem to agree. Works for me. Also I also continue to believe that we will be getting some pretty good help from our much maligned farm system.
  19. Not surprised by this at all. I noted a few days ago that Sale really really likes what he sees from Hernandez. That is good enough for me.
  20. like that - good one
  21. I'll take it from you! I have a ton of Canadian friends down here in the southlands, my guess is that you are much like them. I like them.
  22. What exactly will a hometown deal look like moving forward? Assuming that Mookie might not sign with the Sox long term, in my opinion, is just as silly as believing that all of the people projecting what the future budget of the franchise might be are right. It is fun I guess to make all of these projections - gives us something to talk about - that is it. No one here knows unless we have someone on the inside posting.
  23. ok - I get all this Moon. At least you gave me numbers and did not try to educate me. At this point in time, I could care less whether we start the season with both Vazquez and Leon as our catchers. My opinion, and that is all that it is, if Swihart had the opportunities that the above mentioned have had, we all might be surprised. Looks like he won't get them - so be it. No big deal but regardless of all of Dojji's "advice" as well as your numbers I am not going to be convinced that he is not a far superior athlete to either one of these guys. There are people here who will interpret what I have just said as me being opposed to keeping and using Vazqueth and Leon over Swihart. That is ********. It is not what I am saying.
  24. It is just as likely that either Vazquez or Leon are replaceable immediately if the situation warranted it. It doesn't, thus it is not an issue. They are both adequate since they both have defensive attributes.
