  1. screw him - you can make yourself look bad all by yourself - join the crowd of incorridgeables - come to the dark side notin - lol
  2. very true notin very true
  3. How many games did JD play in the outfield last year? I doubt that changes mush this year. He is not a full-time dh by any means. Don't be putting him out to pasture just yet.
  4. Flip a coin and move on I say. It will make 0 difference whether it is Vazquez or Leon. they are obviously both better catchers than Swihart at this time but that really isn't saying much. Keep all three - it will make 0 difference. What a conundrum right. Oh my god - which one of our solid backups will get the job on day 1?
  5. UZR/150 - hmmm - sounds like a second amendment issue to me.
  6. It is likely why I don't know Steamer! lol Sometimes I wonder Moon how someone as unschooled in modern baseball methods as I am should even be commenting here. lol
  7. The metrics comment came directly form me based on Harmony's post trying to support which catcher does what based upon what they have or have not done. I do not think that using that type of argument with respect to what Swihart might do if given a chance has any meaning whatsoever.
  8. Could be why I don't like reading hinting comments from a forum board. It is what the media tends to do. Try to read things into something to create news where there isn't news.
  9. Have either Sale or Price openly stated that they prefer Leon to Vazquez or anyone else? They might for sure but I have not heard either state as much. I really don't think that if either had to pitch to cowboy slapshanks they would complain. They are two of the best in the game and likely would feel comfortable having any skilled professional behind the plate.
  10. You think they really do know more Bell? I think that there are some here who truly think that their gained knowledge of all things statistical gives them a leg up on almost anyone. For the record, of course I agree with your statement. I'm sure that you understand how I feel about all of this though. A gained mastery of all things regarding metrics in baseball does not at all mean that people in that camp have a mastery of the game.
  11. No one truly knows what Swihart's upside might be with respect to either his offense or his defense. It is all conjecture based on a limited number of gasbag statistics. Once again, metrics can be very useful but in some respects not so much. With respect to our conversation, I respect yours always but I don't think that I am totally alone in my beliefs.
  12. Yawn - We rank three backup catchers here. I think that you could put these guys in a shell game, flip over any one of them, and likely get similar results most days. Leon and Vazqueth can catch for sure and that is a good thing. Every team needs a catcher. Swihart - Who knows. If any one of those three is gone from the roster come April, the affect will likely hardly be noticeable.
  13. I certainly don't think the numbers that you list are useless. I am not stunned by these numbers though. Guess we will just have to wait to see what happens. But I will say Moon that nothing you post is telling me that you think that Sale or Price would be as effective with any other catcher but Leon. My opinion is that I am not buying that line of reasoning.
  14. If we don't add someone significant I think kind of based on what you have said here that it is even more likely that we see the two kids sooner as opposed to later. When you look at what we have for bullpen arms, what is not to like with these two strong armed kids? I would rather see either one of them as opposed to acquiring someone else off the junk pile.
  15. We do not need two catchers who likely would be solid backups on many teams. Taking a chance with Swihart won't hurt a thing. Sandy Leon is a good defensive catcher but anyone thinking that Sandy is the biggest reason for the success of two big time big league pitchers I think is giving him more credit than he deserves.
  16. If there are no changes made to that bullpen, it is very likely that Hernandez and Feltman are in it long before people think they are going to be and long before people seem think that they are ready to be.
  17. Are you a mystery in your own mind?
  18. notin - this is a better post than most might think that it is. What you say is the absolute truth. It would be one hell of a decision for some but really a no brainer for others. Possible financial security for the rest of time or take the high road and do what many would suggest to be the right thing? Sadly the people choosing to do the right thing are the people most often taken advantage of today.
  19. My God - good past digging up here. You do pay attention! I guess 10 to 20 million won't do it for some folks.
  20. Are you suggesting that I don't understand what I means? Or are you suggesting that I don't know what I am talking about? A or B but only one is the correct answer -
  21. but... but but but - Before you get too excited, remember that these guys are a by-product of certainly one of the worst farm systems in ml baseball. It has been spoken.
  22. Tom Seaver was the one. I had every pitcher that I ever worked with pay attention to his right knee. It was always covered with dirt. His power came from his lower body. Low man wins!!! It was a real treat watching this man work.
  23. Most posters here I have to think understand the overall purpose of what spring training is all about. But simply writing it off and assuming that it has no relevance is also just a little foolish. There are some fairly serious issues that need to be resolved here. I don't think that the likes of Workman, Valezqueth, Thornburg, are automatic write ins to be on our roster come real game time. Once again I have learned how it works here - My post in no way means that I feel there is some sort of intense contest that needs to be resolved by any member of our team. Oh and by the way, I also think that there is some relevance to all metrics being used. I'm just not a groupie like some of you seem to be - lol
  24. Oh my goodness - Let's go!
  25. sarcasm - Spring training likely has a great deal of meaning for young players trying to make an impression. Every now and then you actually get a couple of veterans trying to solidify their role on a team. Obviously the primary purpose is to get everybody out there to get their work in and hopefully have everyone ready to go when the gun goes off but to simply say that it means nothing is silly. If it meant nothing, it is likely that they wouldn't have it.
