  1. I appreciate this Slasher - feeling a little butt hurt here these daze(I'm in one most of the time)! lol Seriously now ( I actually mean it ) - I totally get and understood entirely where you are and were coming from throughout that whole discussion. A part of me actually agrees.
  2. I do not believe that there is a single person posting her who does not value a catcher's defense far more than a catcher's offense. The rub for me personally is that I am just not sure that Vazquez is all that good. he is a decent catcher for sure but anyone painting him to be a lot better than average I think is stretching things a bit.
  3. Moon - it's all good here.
  4. Absolutely true - I don't mind it all when someone disagrees with an opinion of mine. You and i have had this discussion before. Almost everything that is posted here is opinion and conjecture. Having a strong opinion and expressing it does not in the slightest have anything to do with what someone else here thinks of anyone from an intelectual standpoint.
  5. I think that you are likely right with this. I did reread the post that I made that I guess is the one that Moon responded to. Probably just me but I didn't see much in it to get riled up over. If ever I don't agree with you, I hope that you don't get the feeling that I think that you are trying to act in an intellectually superior way to me. That is just me being sarcastic - lol. Sadly i do get the feeling here that if you don't agree with certain people's points of view, they tend to get all sputtery and hit you with one million pieces of statistical garbage to attempt to prove their points of view. Thanks for trying to keep the peace.
  6. I'm with you on this one as well. People can make all of the comments they like with respect to why our starting pitchers have looked so poorly. The simple answer I guess is to look for any change that has been made to the roster as an explanation - primarily the catching position but how does anyone explain what the bullpen has done? It is all just a guess.
  7. Wow - you really put me in my place. I apologize for totally misinterpreting what you have been saying for so long. Sometimes I guess I just don't get it.
  8. In your arguments with who ever to hell this nimrod from New York is you do in fact imply that it is all about Leon. Maybe it is - who knows. I understand that you have not implied that you know any more about the game than any of the rest of us. not a problem. Once again anyone who knows one goddam thing about baseball understands the importance of the catcher pitcher relationship. if you feel that Leon's presence made that much of a difference last year than great. I don't share your thoughts. he is an excellent backup catcher cut from the same cloth that Vazquez is. they are not that good in my opinion. It is an area that would not hurt from an upgrade and maybe Swihart could provide that. it is possible .
  9. The implication that I get based on your posts is that yes indeedy that if Sandy leon was behind the plate then our pitching staff would be doing substantially better than they are currently doing. That is your opinion and that is ok. You obviously are able to find statistics to support your view. I have no interest in doing that but my opinion is that Leon's importance to the pitching staff's competency has been way over blown. That is my opinion. I like Sandy Leon too and we may well see him again but if Swihart continues to hit it will be at Vazqueth's expense. Please Moon, don't go on a rant telling me how important catching defense is - i really do understand the game of baseball. There is also not one iota of "I told you so" in me. If the men in charge truly felt that Leon's absence was the cause of our starting rotation doing so poorly, they would know that by now even and he would be back!
  10. I think that the biggest issue here is what looks like a revert to a few years ago - poor baseball fundamentals! Cora knows this too and I expect something will get done about it. Our Sox are one of the best teams out there but it is ml baseball. You can't take any team for granted. I understand that I lean toward seeing things in an older school type of way and to this point I have seen absolutely no reason and no proof to say that some of the "older" ways of looking at things are wrong. I believe that you play like you practice. I do not know whether or not our guys were ready to go when the season began but they should have been.
  11. I got you earlier with the Matt Clement story. I'm going with the fact that times have changed. The way i read the thread title led me to think that someone suggested the Red Sox might have put an injured Chris Sale on the mound. In my opinion that is laughable.
  12. i understand that it has been done but once again my bet would be that any sane individual would not think that they would yard an injured Chris Sale out to the mound. Makes 0 sense.
  13. Just watching him run the bases ought to tell some of the naysayers something. he is an athlete who has not had the opportunity that possibly he will get this year. Maybe we finally do find out what he is capable of. My bet is with him!
  14. The answer to the question is of course no they would not. Is there really anyone out there who thinks that that is even remotely possible?
  15. It was refreshing to watch Swihart last night. It is good to see and athlete getting a deserved chance. I've read so much ******** here about all of his supposed deficiencies which are based on nothing but sporadic play over the past few years. Maybe he gets the chance he deserves this year. He has more athletic ability than the combined duo of Vazquez and Leon. Also to date how is that much maligned bullpen working out for all of the critics out there?
  16. We sure did hate what the Yankees were doing Moon but I think the question really is why? The high road says that we all felt that victories won through free agency were tainted. The lower road says something else. Much of the so called "hatred" was pure and simple jealousy. The Yankees were doing something that the ownership of the Red Sox was either unwilling or incapable of doing. It is a different world now. I like going into seasons now as a team to beat. Our ownership team has proven to be responsible and dedicated to putting teams on the field that compete year in and year out.
  17. Some of us have been saying this since the talk of the cliff began. It is an odd conversation and a theory that has been promoted by not very many people, but those who believe in it have been adamant about it happening. We have seen all of the facts and figures many times over. We have been cautioned about becoming the New York Yankees. We have listened to constant reminders about what the best and according to some might be the only way of building a team - through the farm. We all have our opinions and mine is that there is no cliff approaching and there are numerous ways to build a team. We have a wealthy owner who loves this team. I'm just going to go with it.
  18. I have started a few new threads myself and will once again I'm sure. if more people started new threads, I really think that more people would participate. I would like to think that a goal of any forum might be to expand readership and participation. Likely not going to get that without some fresh topics and ideas to discuss.
  19. Sign that sob long term right now! The man wants to pitch. While I'm on a minor rant, with respect to Sandy Leon, suggesting that he is fat because of his BMI rating is beyond absurd. It is kind of like when i was told that I had high cholesterol rating of 232 once by an RN. My doctor broke it down and said that there would likely be no need to check it again. The metrics just don't always tell the true story. If someone called Leon blocky, I would understand that one.
  20. Personally i would be a little careful about a suggesting that John Henry doesn't understand the "smart way" of doing baseball. It is only my opinion for sure but I kind of think that he gets it and that based on results his way of dong things is the right way for him and us. Some people might not like how he runs his business but I think that he runs it in a pretty smart way.
  21. I understand that. It is odd to me that for people who have the need for all things baseball to be supported by analytical data that they would throw out a comment for which there is nothing but personal opinion to support it with. I'm really not surprised though because we do still have a few around who still think that larry Luchino is responsible for every bad move the Red sox have ever made.
  22. I would hope that anyone who has even just a faint clue about the real game of baseball would have a deep appreciation of the talents of Sandy Leon. He did a great job for us. He is replaceable and probably our pitchers are aware of that. Doesn't make his contributions any less important. My opinion here is that there a few amongst us who inflated his importance and are having trouble accepting the fact that the front office does not share their opinion.
  23. Where does this suggestion even come from? wow - Most of us liked what Sandy gave us behind the plate but many of us have felt that it was time to move on. Personally i have absolutely no reason to doubt that DD and Cora are anywhere other than on the same page.
