  1. I agree with you but personally it would not matter who the GM was who did the hiring. i'll support whoever is chosen by whoever does the choosing.
  2. tut tut tut now... You are going to get a reputation here. You might even feel the way i do about Jh's budget. lol
  3. Wow - I've been here for a while now. overall it has been good thing.
  4. There is no question that what you said is true. What I personally can say though that for me I would never mention his name if it was not constantly revisited over and over by his detractors here on talksox. Oh well, if wasn't DD it would likely be some other already worked over topic such as John Henry's budget. lol
  5. and the legend of DD lives on in all threads for some of you. Take deep breaths - You can still get through this.
  6. It was fun reading through the last few pages. Eventually a few of you will be able to get beyond your dislike of DD. He isn't with us anymore. Just let it go. By the way, I was a fan of the trade that brought Pomeranz to Boston. It was worth the risk and obviously in hindsight that proves to be true.
  7. Hopefully Bloom gets his opportunity to do his thing but the seats of Fenway won't be filled until some stars start to really shine. Having Sale come back next year at least gives reason to be hopeful of having a chance to see one of the best in the game perform. It is these types of players that many many fans want to see play the game.
  8. I think that it might be time for a clean break. I would be surprised if Bloom brings Cora back. He might still for sure but I get the feeling that he wants to be able to put his own stamp of approval on the next manager. Managers come and go. Whoever Bloon brings in likely won't disappoint.
  9. Outside of the fact that Manny as we all know was one of the all time great right handed hitters, the only place that I have heard any real praise for him with respect to anything else is by the few posters on this web site. Most die hard fans that I talked with had had it with his antics. Mookie Betts on the other hand could possibly have been the face of this franchise for many years. The kind of player certainly that we all would like our kid to grow up to be or in my case grandkid.
  10. I freely admit to be a process guy. I also believe that it is way too early to judge or make any assumptions with respect to bloom at this point. i would say though that personally I could never get on board with the Tampa Bay ways of winning. There is so much more to a complete baseball season and a real team than simply ultimate results. Winning continues to be good though.
  11. Ok Jad - here we go - I absolutely agree with you.
  12. Losing Mookie = crying shame yup
  13. ... bang bang bang goes the never ending drumbeat
  14. I agree.
  15. we don't have the budget. in order to do such a thing, the available seats in the park would have to be divided to accommodate two humans.
  16. Makes little difference. I could go with whatever.
  17. Hey don't laugh. if we can have cardboard cutouts of fans in the seats, what to hey, bring back Dick and give him a shot. I have seen some past Sox managers whom I thought could be outdone by a cardboard cutout or even a mannequin in the dugout.
  18. Hmm - yes i did say those words. I don't think I said anything about plantations and people owning players. Those are your thoughts and words - keep them to yourself please. I really don't like to be dragged into anyone's personal gutter.
  19. If you can somehow deduce from what I said that there is any association with a plantation philosophy or is an implication that owners of teams owned players , then clearly you have an agenda which is fairly easy to figure out. Your comment is pathetic. You are twisting what I said to meet a perverted view of what I said. I will stand by my comment that many professional athletes are "soft" and grossly overpaid. I'm ok with you disagreeing with me but please don't twist what I said for your own reading pleasure.
  20. Where did this post even come from? Plantation owners - really? Please don't read something in to my comments that just isn't there. Notin does that already lol. I believe that respect is earned and often it is confused as fear for those who really are soft in my estimation. The good ones understand what discipline is all about and actually want to see it enforced. I am so sick of people doing this - read it for what it is do not twist the meaning of very simply stated words. Actually I do not think that times have changed all that much. the most successful people and coaches still believe in may of the same ways of doings things that were done long before I became involved.
  21. Thank you - The landscape of professional sports has certainly changed over the years. Entertainment in general has taken on a societal role I think that I just do have a had time with. I like what Bird said - "just play the game".
  22. I would hope that they would do their due diligence and sign the players that they will need. if and when things return to anything that resembles normal, JH will have to put together a semi-quality team if he expects people to fill those tiny little seats again. it is going to be exciting to watch our young pitchers develop but that alone won't be enough to attract the average fan.
  23. The landscape is just so different today than it used to be. If the overpaid boobs don't happen to like you, guess what - it makes really no difference whether you are a good baseball manager or not, you are gone. I have lost a great deal of my passion for any type of professional sport because of this. Mangers today should be required to have degrees in counciling before applying for any available position. Mangers like Dick Williams of which there were many, would not survive today without dramatically changing their style to coincide with the "softness" that society requires.
  24. I wonder if I already knew that before I made the post.
