  1. Yes - the more automation that continues to be introduced into the game will cause me to continue to lose interest. i don't care where they put the earpiece, there really is something about this that in my mind is an attempt to sterilize a pretty good game that doesn't need much help. The human element is very important to me. It is an imperfect game because humans are involved. Look I'm not trying to get into any argument with you or once again a few others on the site. I can't compete with any of you in that regard. I'm just one voice and I think that I have expressed how I feel about the issue. Don't forget - I'm one of those guys that still believes in momentum, the home field advantage, clutch athletes in general. I appreciate what the data and technology has brought to the game but it isn't why I watch and it does nothing to add to my personal enjoyment of it. I've been able to live with the mistakes that I have had to live through in my coaching and viewing career and actually many of them have given me stories to tell years after they happened. Hey - I'm an old athlete and coach I guess now. I need those stories. I don't think that my feelings are actually all that out of step with regard to the viewing public.
  2. to date though i have found no club that allows me to gain back any of the yardage i have lost in just the last two years - come on technology.
  3. only for speed of play purposes - lol Why do you always have to do stuff like this anyway? lol stop raining on my parade.
  4. I've read through the posts and if fury is being expressed we actually are living in a kinder, gentler world.
  5. I think that you made some great points here. Technology of course and rightfully so is here to stay. i do think that overdosing on it doesn't improve one's quality of life though. When i go to the golf course (which is most days) the telephone does not go with me.
  6. Fury? really?
  7. Well it is clear to see that all 5,6 or maybe 7 of you have made up your minds about how much more beneficial to the game it would be to have robots calling the balls and strikes. Hope you don't mind someone disagreeing with you. There have been many changes made to the game which I have had no problem with at all but personally I do not think that this move would make the game particularly interesting for me to watch. Hey look before you pile on - I don't care for the way basketball is played these days and it is a game that I know a little about. What can I say- I wish that the 3 point line had never been created. Losing me or the few others who share my opinion obviously won't hurt the game.
  8. i don't think that it is important to understand why some people - assuming that I am not the only one - would see robotic strike callers as one more step that leads toward changing the game. i've accepted and actually like instant replay when it is done quickly and efficiently but speaking for myself only, I don't think that more automation will make the game more enjoyable. I like as much "human element " as possible. If I were to choose not to watch the game as it continues to transform, oh well i guess that it would be my loss.
  9. data driven information in baseball obviously works for some. That is all good. Robotic umpires would turn me off to a great extent. I love the game and in part because it is imperfect. It is the human element that works for me. Does that make me a boot licker? Something I have yet to do. Robotic umpires dealing with balls and strikes I'm afraid would do it for me. And the is ok right. I'm just some old guy now. I'm probably one of just a few people who liked the game more the way it was right? We shall see I guess.
  10. it is a connection that good coaches are able to achieve. Anything is possible when it is achieved.
  11. I realize that I am now from a little different era. To each his own I guess. Maybe Cora is older than he says he is. lol
  12. i'm loving me some Schwarber. he is a must in there for me. i don't know what becomes of Dalbec. Still just a kid. A healthy Arroyo makes a really big difference in this lineup. Hernandez can stay in center where we need him and second base is taken care of. oh by the way yup, I would do would i could do to sign Schwarber as well. He just seems to fit up here in new England.
  13. When Cora told Rodriguez last night that we don't do that, I was sold. I've always liked him but not as much as I do now. He makes a difference. He is a real coach. He loves these guys but isn't afraid to lead. He cares about them and about the franchise in general and our guys know it.
  14. Things were not left in bad shape at all by DD. He was an outstanding GM for us at the right time. He is now not here amongst us. i've moved on and am very happy with the current team. obviously i'm not particularly concerned with who the GM is but a good job is being done.
  15. I think that Houck is a potential top shelf starter and that is the role that he should play. Whitlock I suppose there might be a little question about but I don't think plugging him to a relief pitchers role is something that should be done.
  16. God Bless Mookie and good luck but signing the two aces that we currently have was a big deal whether it continues on or not. You build franchises around people like these two. We were fortunate to sign them. Kind of looks to me as though they like being in Boston.
  17. Thanks for responding. Both of these men represent the type of player that I think good teams need. it certainly helps when they are healthy and can do their job. Their attitudes and work ethic are worth a great deal of money.
  18. So ok - who has the guts here to admit that in fact they might have been wrong with respect to the extensions of both Eovaldi and Sale? Not only are they outstanding players, they have a fierce desire to win plus they appear to be pretty loyal.
  19. Like everybody else, I like Cora. Players manager - etc. You think maybe he over coaches on occasion? It is not a really good idea to simply give away games at this point.
  20. I absolutely agree. The season may be a long time but the number of seasons that I have left certainly isn't getting longer.
  21. Personally for me the good news is that the front office is willing to accept the blame if that word really works here for the Red Sox season. it is not something that we see often these days. No excuses - a clear message to the fans that they should have done a better job.
  22. if I had two pitchers to choose from (E-Rod and Pivetta) in one meaningful game, I would go with Pivetta all day at this time. Both obviously are needed in the rotation but waiting for E-Rod to become something that I don't think he will become has tired me out. I'm not the fan that I used to be.
  23. Lars Anderson - I really hope not but time to cool the jets.
  24. I'll admit that I haven't followed this team as much as I should have but - I am a pitching kind of guy and I love the young arms of Pivetta, Houck, and Whitlock. When they pitch, I tend to watch. Also, when Sale returns, I will watch every pitch that he throws.
  25. Now that is not only funny but so so true.
