  1. So - he moves ahead of Porcello on the depth chart?
  2. hey hey - little love here for cp(lol). If nothing else, he might be a piece of the big trade puzzle.
  3. if anybody out there really believes that what the Sox have done this year represents a win now at all cost philosophy would you please explain to me what you mean. Nothing they have done looks like that to me. Is it just me? Is this what you mean: 1. We should have started Sandoval 2. We should not have sent Castillo down 3. We should not have sent Swihart back to AAA 4. We should not have signed Price 5. We should not have traded for Kimbrel (Who were those guys we traded again) 6. We should not have traded for Smith 7. We should not be starting Shaw at third base there has to be something I am missing here. i am very excited about this year as well as future years in part because of those moves. I'll admit that I can be a little slow so if you can please explain how the future years of our beloved franchise are threatened by these moves that appear logical to me I would be grateful.
  4. My Dad told me when I was 18 that pretty soon I would look in the mirror and some old guy would be looking back at me.
  5. Hey - I'm happy for the kid. Not sure that he is an upgrade over Marrero or Rutledge. He might be the same player. I think that they are rewarding him for the work that he has put in plus they need to find out a little more about him. They are pretty well stocked with players like him right now. He is certainly stronger looking than he was last year. When I saw him in Portland, I was very impressed with him.
  6. At what point in his development was Swihart moved to the catching position?
  7. Although I have been a fan for over 50 years, I guess I must be one of the unusual ones these days. I want them to compete every year. What Dombrowski has done so far is by no means a win at all costs philosophy. His moves have seemed logical, prudent and about time to many of us. Like I have said before, he doesn't look as good in his suit as Cherington did. Hope he isn't offended because at this point it surely looks like he knows more about the way the game is played.
  8. I won't be checking out the crystal ball on any of these guys. Just going to enjoy what this young man is doing right now.
  9. Last year counts too. Who gets to decide how long you should stay with a player be he young or old before you have seen enough? Just like everybody else, I love the kids athleticism but seriously he just was not and is not ready to catch at the big league level. Keeping him up with the big club was hurting him as much as it was hurting us.
  10. Like this one!!!
  11. He sure looked good in a suit though didn't he. I prefer Dombrowski's rumpled look and common sense logical approach.
  12. Castillo will probably get his chance but if he does I am guessing that it will be with another team. Signing him to begin with was an extremely expensive risk. Not the type of risk that is going to happen going forward. Trade talks are going to start warming up. This team is to close to being real good to not go out and get that one more guy that we need.
  13. It would seem to make sense to me to get them as early as you could so that they could be taught exactly what the system requires them to learn. It can take a long time for a catcher to learn what he needs to know and to actually put it all together.
  14. I really like Shaw. He is big, athletic, has a rifle for an arm and just quite simply earned the right to be our third baseman.
  15. Lest there be any confusion - it is about the pitching.
  16. I sure wish we had those prospects back that we gave up for this Kimbrel guy! oh baby baby
  17. Hanley can get down the line-
  18. How often is it for a non-catching prospect to be drafted and then converted to the catching position? Just a few years ago most teams drafted their catchers early because of the length of time it actually took for them to develop. I would think I guess that all things being equal it would be a little unusual for someone who converts to the position of catcher from another position to become an outstanding major league catcher. It just seems like it would take an extremely talented athlete to make up for time lost. Swihart is a talented young athlete and I am pulling for him. I think that he is where he belongs right now.
  19. I'll second that. I don't actually hate anyone. I don't know Pablo Sandoval. I hate the fact that the Sox signed him even though I didn't at the time. I hate the fact that he is receiving many millions of dollars and quite possibly influencing the way budgetary issues are dealt with going forward. I hate the fact that some wanted him to play ahead of Shaw who clearly won the job and is the better player. No offense to Pablo at all - don't hate him just the way he approaches the game.
  20. We will find out just how motivated he is to be in Boston. He has had opportunities. Whether he was given enough or not, is certainly up to someone else to decide. You sign someone for 70 million who is borderline old for a rookie to begin with and add to that the fact that he had never player major league baseball - I can live with him having limited opportunities. It is possible that not everyone sees him as a gifted prospect. If he performs well in Pawtucket, I am sure that he will get another chance. It is pretty much up to him. They won't send a player down for playing too well. Kind of looks like in someone's eyes the best players are going to play.
  21. It would not surprise me at all if we found out that they tried to move Swihart and found out that alone he just wasn't going to bring the type of return that they wanted. We hear an awful lot about Swihart's potential and that is a good thing. We have a top of the line catcher in Vazquez who if healthy will probably always be in front of Swihart. No one tends to say much here about Vazquez's hitting potential. We know that he is a helluva catcher. We need to just sit back and watch him develop. Preach patience with Swihart all you want but I think we should do the same with Vazquez. That short compact stroke looks like he may become a better hitter than anyone thinks he can. He also is very athletic, strong , and physically fit.
  22. Castillo with a couple of hits tonight. Good for him.
  23. Who's this new guy on the hill for us?
  24. If they were planning to keep him, it was inevitalbe. Question is will he hit well enough to be able to hold down a different position? With what we have coming, I don't think so. Now - time for them to get Moncada on the move!
