  1. Thanks for the answer. i think that I actually agree with you. I'm not sure the Red Sox have seen any of these guys perform long enough for them to have totally made up their minds yet though. if they decide to upgrade starting pitching for real this year, someone is going to get traded. Whoever goes, there is bound to be a lot of head shaking. Other than make a big play for a dh, they might not do anything. it might be enough. On the other hand they might just sit tight. I hope not though. A power bat and a totr guy and this team rolls along. Outfielders can be replaced. i don't want John Henry to horde his money!
  2. There is a lot to be said that for the old adage you are never as good as you look when you are on a hot streak nor are you ever as bad as you look when you are struggling. At some point the winning streak was going to end. it just happened to early for us.
  3. Kopech, Dubon, and Moncada all off to great starts in Arizona. I like Dubon at short though and not in the outfield. A little early in his development to be projecting him as a utility player. I feel the same way about Hernandez.
  4. One thing that I have learned over the years here is that it seems as though having a middle ground opinion doesn't cut it. If you disagree about something just a little bit, you must be totally against it and if you agree with something just a little bit, you must totally favor it. I listen to and learn from all opinions before I make up my mind about something. When discussing a topic like HFA - whether it is or isn't - I tend to think that there really might be good reason to listen to the folk who have been in the battle to achieve it. How much of a difference it makes isn't important to me at all. I've been there and I know that it makes a difference. Can you beat a team that has HFA? - of course!
  5. I must have arrived late to the party once again. Any of my comments have been directed at my personal feelings about what I feel the importance of HFA is. There are other things that are more important of course than going all out here for the sake of attaining the HFA. I might disagree with you about who needed to be rested and how much they needed to have but that is an entirely different discussion. I get your point. My point is simply that to me HFA is and will always be something that I think is quite important. That being said, i'm not sure that John Farrell is really in any way responsible for us not getting it. i really did miss the part about this discussion being about a criticism of Farrell.
  6. Who are these people that are bashing him for not getting the HFA? As is often the case I guess, I am missing something here. I think that most of us are pretty damn happy that we got to the playoffs. My contention is and will continue to be that in Cleveland's world, home field means quite a bit. I'm not sure that John Farrell could have done much more than he did.
  7. it just kind of feels like you think that I think there is huge advantage to owning the home field. I do not nor have I ever said that I did. There is an advantage in most cases. You say negligible. Great! I would take any advantage that I could get. i'm not sure that it would have made any difference at all. That is not the point. I favor looking for any advantage.
  8. A coin flip then I guess?
  9. That is what they are though I guess - exceptions. They are great stories but exceptions none the less.
  10. What am I missing here? Really
  11. I don't disagree with you really. What I would say is that all things being equal - 2 teams - one that has won 65% of its' games at home playing against a team that has won roughly let's say 50% of its' game on the road. If the game is held on the home field of the team that has won 65% of its' games at home, logic supported by statistics would tell anyone that the home team has the advantage. Exceptions to any situation of course can be found.
  12. Kind of obvious I think that we can find statistics somewhere to support most of our beliefs.
  13. There are so many possibilities aren't there - Dubon to short (someday) Bogaerts to third (maybe - with just a little more power which I think will come) I think that it is players like Moncada, Benintendi, Dubon, Swihart, Devers, Travis, Shaw, Hernandez, etc. who actually make it tough to trade in some ways. The are all good! How good remains to be seen.
  14. I like what you have posted and agree with most of it. Out of curiosity though what is there in Benintendi's game to date that you think makes him more valuable to our team than Bradley? I'm not saying that he won't be and I am not saying that I definitely would not trade Bradley for a TOTR young guy either. i am genuinely curious and I am not being my usual wise-assed self. I don't think that you are alone in feeling this way either. I also hope that he becomes the player that he looks like he might become but for me I don't see it as an absolute lock just yet. He is very valuable and I would have a hard time dealing him but for the right pitcher he would not be on my no trade list. Betts would be and that is probably about it for me right now.
  15. This is how I see it. Outside of finding a dh and maybe one reliever they might not do a thing. I don't want them to trade for another mid rotation starter. We have that base covered already. They may make a play for that top of the rotation guy but that will cost them. I'm not so sure the front office is willing to give up any of their future young stars before they truly have a sample size that is meaningful. If they are going to add a starting pitcher I don't think that it will be some stiff they could get just to provide more depth.
  16. Sorry but I am very non complicated. A team that wins their division and wins 65% of their games at home would be a team that I would think had a very good chance of winning at home.
  17. I think that you are right. he might do 0 as well - i don't expect that though - not in his DNA
  18. This is where my word smithers comment was supposed to be.
  19. The "word smithers" here are unbelievable.
  20. I think that the overall advantage of playing on your home field is going to obviously be answered differently based upon who you ask. To the teams that won 65% of their games at home this year, it probably would seem very very important. Having rested players (very few of the good ones are well rested at this time) is very important. The question of how much rest it takes is debatable for sure. A 40 year old with bad feet and a second baseman with a bad knee might need some good down time. When your talking about how much rest a healthy 23-28 year old player needs, I would err on the side of not much for sure. Playing for a championship may not come around again. Having your rotation lined up is important. I certainly have not said that not having home field advantage cost us the series. It very well might have been a factor. How would anyone know? We got outplayed by a team that won 65% of its regular season games at home this year. Great debate we are having - mostly just all hind sight though. We had a great year and quite honestly, I hope that cleveland gets it done.
  21. 54% vs 46% = advantage - I would take that advantage anyday in any length series. Just enough maybe. That is all anyone could ask for.
  22. It is not some sort of new revelation that pitching is ultimately what gets it done. We all know that . We all get it. it is the top priority and I am going to guess that at least 95% of the people posting here get it. It is first and foremost. Aren't we lucky though that the team we cheer for can have both - big time hitting and pitching. This is in no way an either or situation! It is actually laughable that someone suggests that because there are some of us who would like to see EE in the middle of our lineup that we would pass on an opportunity to improve our pitching in order to sign him. That is a joke. The Red Sox can do both.
  23. Cp's stance - john henry please spend your money on our team.
  24. i'm thinking that if a trade is made for the right guy, he will already be under contract. Everybody wants pitching as opposed to signing a dh. That isn't even an issue. 100 million spent on any free agent starter this year would be a waste of money. This isn't an either or situation. Multiple choice quiz - A. great young starting pitcher B. gets you an aging but solid hitting dh. Do you see much of a debate over what the right answer is? it really has nothing to do with money being spent this year unless you want the organization to save up. I don't - I want them to spend.
  25. sign EE for 4 and no more. The dollars will not be the primary concern trade for that totr youngster tinker with the bullpen Say hello to baseball in October again. If getting that young pitcher via trade means giving up a current starter not named Betts, go for it.
