Romanski out for a little while. 50 game suspension. Probably not the best thing for a 26 year old prospect. He actually looked pretty good this summer. Hope this isn't the reason why.

I think that it is going to be interesting to see how they do use Pomeranz and Wright. Wright was literally lights out before the injury and Pomeranz is a big young kid with plenty of potential. I hate the idea of using a knuckle baller in the bullpen although it has been done before. I would also like to see Pomeranz get a shot at starting. I have very little confidence in Kelly. I wish we had one more bullpen arm not named Wright or Pomeranz.

I guess you proved your point. Teams do sometimes do this. I think that it always is debateable whether it is the right call or not. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don't. I'm not sure that it happens all the time but I do realize that it happens.

I really don't think that it is a stretch to say that in most cases, teams tend to play their best players. Those that for some reason choose to not play their best, might not win as often. I'm not saying that it can't happen, but it would seem very unlikely and unusual to me that if E-Rod is healthy and well and throwing better than the other two this spring, that he would get sent back. It would seem even more unusual now that DD seems to be a "win now" mode.

Even with the trade of Buch, spring training still becomes significant. I also think that if he is healthy there is no way E-Rod is sent back but the spring work is going to help sort out how we fill out the starting pitching situation.

He sure as hell threw fewer stinkers than ever before this year. If he really has figure out how to pitch, he could be good for a long long time. He works quickly and had a great command of the plate and strike zone this year.

Honestly I'm not sure I would recognize any of them. I'm ok with that. I probably wouldn't recognize a s*** ton of ballplayers either.

First of all I think that you are right. There probably are quite a few GMs out there who could really make a name for themselves if they had the luxury of being the lead dog in a place like Boston. In some ways it is really hard for the normal fan to actually ever know how good a GM is. I'm not knocking the ones that we have had for sure. I'm as pleased as anyone with the results we have all enjoyed. As you said, judging how good each of them is or has been is pretty tough.

For Buch, I think that this will be a good move. A fresh start in the National League. I really think that he had reached a point where it was in everybody's best interests for him to move on. When good Buch is on the mound though we are going to miss him. This one was done for $ but I still don't think the dealing is done.

When I was a kid, I don't remember seeing any playing cards with GMs on them. I wish I cared a little more about GMs then I do I guess maybe or maybe not.Since the late 60's we have been fairly competitive. We must have had some good ones along the way. I will say that when things don't go well, they tend to get their fair share of the blame. From a players perspective that has to be a good thing.

I've liked Hernandez since his Portland days. Sooner or later I think that he gets his opportunity either with us or with someone else. I just don't see him at third base. ss/2nd - or just as a utility guy for us. The only real difference I see between Holt and Hernandez is that Holt gets some outfield looks. I would like to see Hernandez get some regular playing time just to see what he can do. I think that he could surprise a lot of people.

I'm going to miss him. Oh well, we still have is twin to kick around.

yes and if he is drinking the egg nog that I think he is drinking, he is going to smell bad for a week as well.

My question has always been how does anyone know unless they are on the inside, who has the greatest influence when it comes to making managerial decisions? if you are at the top of the food chain, I'm thinking that you are responsible for what goes on. the General Manager gets the blame as well as the credit unless the owner jumps in the way.

I like this. Moon said that he read that JBJ did not have much speed. Who knew? When I saw him in Portland, he looked awfully fast as in faster than Elsbury from first to third. When I think of Benintendi I think of a kid who might become a good baserunner but I would prefer Pedroia on the bases just because he has been around longer and is a fairly smart ballplayer. The data once again seems to prove me wrong. The advanced data sometimes spoils the beauty and the magic of the game for me.

Kind of like what I told athletes for 40+ years. You are never as good as you look on your best day but you are never as bad as you look on your worst day. Never too high - never too low. Have to stay solid.

I don't always agree with a700 but he continues to be one of the more knowledgeable baseball fans on the board. He is a passionate fan for sure but a great Red Sox fan. He doesn't need support from me because he is more than capable of handling the rhetoric tossed around here. I think this board serves as an outlet for a lot of somewhat unique "behavior" for sure. We all might be a little guilty of getting caught up in the emotion of the moment. I can. I've learned a lot about things that involve baseball in general here over the years. There are some that I don't agree with very often but when I listen to what they say I sometimes actually still learn things. It usually is an opinion board which to me means no one is necessarily right and no one is necessarily wrong. The key for me here is that we care about both the present and future Red Sox teams. Focus points might be a little different but that is the truth. Not buying in to someone's opinion 100% doesn't mean that you are totally opposed to what they have to say either. The baseball season can't come soon enough.

I think that it is a very accurate statement. Best players play. If you were insulted by anything here then obviously you think that I was specifically intending it for you. I wasn't. It was somewhat of a generalization based on a discussion which I will stand behind.

Well - it is too bad you think that my disagreeing with you is taking a shot at you. And it is really too bad that you think that I have disrespected you. I don't even know you. I guess probably when i feel provoked I can get a little carried away as well. When i voice my opinion, i will preface it with that expression. i'm a pretty good listener and reader as well. This is a talksox forum board which I guess means a lot more to you then it does to me. I don't voice many of my opinions here very strongly because they are just opinions. I might be wrong. I'm ok with that. Believe me there is o backdown in me when it comes to something that really matters. This really doesn't. Most of the time I have fun trying to share viewpoint and thoughts here. As an aside - Do you really believe that if someone thinks that DD really is a better GM than Ben was - which I do- that it means that I didn't like or appreciate the job that Ben did?
