  1. That was as clear as i can be. I'm glad I guess that you read what I wrote. We will see how things develop after this incident with respect to Pedroia's ability to lead as a player and Farrell's as a coach.
  2. No place for him in today's game I guess. i learned right on this reputable forum board that there is no place for gritty players in today's game. Makes no difference what color they are.
  3. oh goody - the platoon concept will be the force to save us. Put Hernandez in and let's see if he can do the job.
  4. nasty at the park right now. high 40's and rain
  5. Oh boy - gets my blood up (not) It would be like Farrell to start him tonight. i wonder if he got a hit in any of his rehab starts?
  6. Maybe you are right. If you are, I will certainly have to re-visit all personal perspectives with respect to any game though. it is possible that baseball has changed and has become just a little too dainty for me. Although I will add that athletes are athletes and without a certain degree of toughness you certainly don't make it to the ml level.
  7. you friggin wise-assed Mainers are all the same! lol
  8. so - kind of a bad signing i guess as it looks right now
  9. hey wait - I just saw this post!
  10. yup - I have written a number of posts saying as much. i hope we hear something else about it. He ain't my main man so much these days. Maybe he just should have kept his mouth shut.
  11. I'm beginning to think that I might be him!
  12. i am. I am very angry with them. I don't like that I am but I am. there is something that is bothering me about them and this incident really seems to have personified things for me. i know that I use words that perhaps mean something or maybe even more to me than they do to some. we might not agree on what they actually mean and that is ok - gritty, tough, clutch, aggressive, hard assed whatever. The Pedroia incident really troubles me. I have been a believer in him for a long time. i'm not sure where he is coming from and yes I do think that what he says and feels is very important. this is an extremely talented group of baseball players that I think as a group really lacks something. At the risk of having someone s*** on my coaching career because it was at the high school level, i will quite frankly tell anyone that I far more enjoyed coaching kids who were talented but had an edge. it was my job to humanize them. i was ok with that. it was a lot tougher to win with the proverbial talented good kids who you had to make competitive. i love the Red Sox and will continue to be a fan for life but yes i do absolutely feel that this team lacks something. coaches often call for a gut check - i used to call for a heart check on occasion. This team needs a heart check. Are they really being coached??? I'm sorry if this post is too long or just doesn't work for some but i haven't been this passionate about a Red Sox team in years. We finally have an ace, who quite honestly IMO would have hit Machado right squarely in the ass and this great debate would be over. I want more players like him even if they are not nearly as talented.
  13. yeah - ok - You're right - i realize that not one of the very best athletes in the history of Boston sports won't be coming through that door. Not one of the hundreds that we have had.
  14. calling real ******** on this post lol
  15. wait - who? - what -76? My guess - Pedroia ain't that tough. If he was, he would have just shut his mouth. Let it go. talk really is cheap. Your team is your team. I really am anxious to hear more about this.
  16. I agree with you and i would add that Bogaert's tunked f***ing thumb doesn't make me all that happy. this is beginning to look like a candy assed bunch of protected little wannabes. time to grow up and step up and do the job. the world really isn't all that pretty and nice regardless of how much $ you make.
  17. I call ******** here- yes that's right bull s*** - he really pissed me off. What i really mean is that if this team had a snot's worth of toughness this would not be an issue. in whose universe in professional athletics is your toughest guy a 5'5" second baseman? This could have been handled later on in any number of ways. You can have all of the talent in the world but if this is what your idea of team is you might not quite get it. It is very strange for sure but something is missing here. is this going to be a team for the "millennial" or for the ages (as in 100 wins) as some of you think. Barnes gone for 4 games- Pedroia basically kissing Machado's ass- a team that needs to grow up!
  18. I might. He has pissed me off.
  19. I know - I was just thinking the same thing. I don't know what that says about us or if it says anything at all. I pretty sure that it isn't very important though.
  20. For better or for worse we are stuck with the Panda. I think that they will play him. They won't platoon him either. When he actually starts to cost us games, that is when the change gets made. Hernandez would provide a defensive upgrade for sure but I just don't think they see him as our third baseman going forward. I think that Hernandez could handle the job but I don't think that he is the answer at third going forward.
  21. I guess that it becomes just about what the words mean to us.
  22. you and I will disagree on this one for sure notin. Gritty isn't a label heading a column of names of players who are just tough. Larry was a gritty tough assed player who would have done anything to win. hands around the Doc's neck for instance. Players of all games can be very gritty and extremely talented as well.
  23. what happened to you? lol
  24. I do agree with you but the athletes I consider gritty aren't necessarily limited to doing stuff that tends not to get the big time notice. In basketball, my idea of gritty might for instance be the guy who follows his shots - dives for loose balls - takes the charge - is satisfied with layups and not dunks and realizes that sometimes the best use of the 3 point line is to create space. I get what you are saying though and agree.
