All of it is so goddamned biased i can't stand to read the news from any site. it makes no difference what your personal views might be. i just want the news without someone trying to shove their opinion down my throat. Same goes for television.

And I am just guessing that without seeing an actual IQ, we could debate forever what a genius might be. The people that sound like the geniuses might really not be all the bright when you come right down to it. Also, in New England I think that it is safe to say that that they will take a beating regardless of the moves they do or don't make. Farrell has dealt with all of the s*** slung his way pretty well i think.

I agree with this. I'm not sure who that interior defender and rebounder might be. Fultz, Heyward and one more good tough big one and we are on the way.

I really like this post Max. What I would add is that good managers will make the moves that look like the obvious ones. They don't always work out but the good ones don't just sit around and assume that if their talent appears on paper to be better than their opponents that they will win just because. I read the whole post too. nice

I agree. I have just gotten tired of the haters. Pomeranz isn't the one who put this trade together. I am now watching and reading the Price critics wagging their tails too. i really think that Chris Sale gets it. He was talking about how all people have a voice now since entering the age of twitter. Maybe Pomeranz was more motivated last night. Pretty sure that he is aware of much of what has been said about him lately. His dugout confrontation was right out there as well.

If I didn't believe in these things that you are pointing out, the game would hold no interest for me. Reducing it to a simple statistical study with the assumption that most things that happen over the course of a season just occur randomly is a hard concept for me to ever begin to consider. I wonder if I am alone? Wonder what the actual players in general feel about some of the same things that I have been reading about here? Everything has value and everything has a place.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with your expectations coming out of the 5 hole at all. The critics want more than they are apt to get. When Pomeranz is on, he is much better than a 5.

It was an enjoyable season. The first one I have paid much attention to in quite some time. I too am anxious to see what they do during the off season. have to say though that I hope that it doesn't include a play for C. Anthony.

We all hope this pace continues I'm sure. If this is a contest to see who is right, those of us who still think that we still need more power in that lineup (which includes me - maybe only me), sure hope that we are wrong.

My response would be I guess to say that I have never really said that the analytics whoever they might be get things wrong. Regardless though of the copious studies that they do (I guess) I probably will continue to believe that old school worn out refrain that the quality of the people in charge still can (didn't say always) play quite a role in the performance of a team whether that team is talented or not. Now - one last thing - If Chris Sale was on the mound, and my team was not hitting, my thinking in that situation might be that we needed to score a run anyway we could. If I had a runner on first, with a good handler of the bat at the plate, i very well might try to move that runner up and take my chances that that next hitter might be able to hit a ball over the second baseman's head and score that runner who quite possibly moved up on the bunt. Strategy doesn't always work. but it would be tragic not to try and do something.

I am not arguing at all how much of an impact good or bad managers can have on a team. I don't need to. I have seen both sides and have been on both as well. It might seem odd to some but I really do think that there are and will continue to be situations where bad managers screw up good players and good managers are able to win with lesser talent. But - hey - I know that I am on an island here because I do believe there are still times that things like stolen bases, and sacrifice bunts should be utilized.

I agree with you here for the most part. Where I probably disagree with you and I'm sure others, is that I think in game strategy of things that you can control are more important than the vast majority of analytics think they are. Truthfully i do not think that a managers win loss record is a tell all situation. You still can't make chicken salad out of chicken s*** so to speak. In Farrell's case, critics seem to be latching on to his actual in game management. For the record, some of the best coaches I have ever known, never won titles and conversely, some pretty bad ones actually have.

Another way to put it is - We can sometimes be blinded but what might appear to be brilliance or baffled by ********. The game of baseball will never be as complicated as some would like to make it out to be. The best managers and players understand this and they still keep it very simple. It is once again why the attitude that Chris Sale has works for me. keep it simple. i think he did a great job last night keeping his composure when he got squeezed on that pitch to Napoli too.

I hope that no one thinks that calling for a sacrifice, a pickoff, or a hit and run is comparable to someone thinking that they can call for a homer or a strikeout. i do appreciate what you are trying to say but I don't see the manager of a baseball team in the same light as i do the CEO of a large corporation. You have separated two approaches that I don't think can be separated. The manager of a team obviously gets a lot of help but he is ultimately responsible for all things that happen on the field.

Nah - just checked out my own posts. Never said Sammy goes full time.. Never said anything about "benching" any current players. Someone seeing want they want to see I guess. Happens all the time.

Thanks for the shout out here but nah you probably don't understand me so good. Once again, i'm not sure it was a good move to bring him up but no I am not too excited about 5 home runs and 23 ribbies coming out of our so called run producers. Could Travis help us out here, I don't know but if he only plays once every 3 or 4 days we sure as hell won't know and it will hurt any chance of his future development.

ok I will temper my enthusiasm a bit but it is a move that I see as a little confusing. I won't change my thinking with respect to using him maybe what once every three or four days with some pinch hitting jobs thrown in will show. i'm sure that he is happy to be called up. my question really is why? If he has been called up to provide us with a better source of run producers then he needs the opportunity to prove himself. Playing sporadically probably will not do it. With all of that, just for the record, I'm really not a big Hanley fan and I think that Moreland ultimately gives us some depth.

Throwing in the towel? really - not how I see it. Maybe you don't understand me so good. I think that Sam Travis might be better than what we are yarding out there daily. So let's see, you must not be in favor of playing any of these kids right? Let's leave all of these guys down on the farm to help our minor league franchises be successful. What do you think - trade a few more of them for some seasoned veterans?

I don't know exactly where this discussion is coming from but i would simply say that it is impossible for most of us who have not been in a managers shoes inside the dugout to imagine what it must be like. He obviously has to be concerned about the future the bigger picture so to speak. At the same time he is directly responsible for all of the little things that go into game to game preparation- including the daily lineup. Now we could debate what an ideal lineup looks like forever as we have but personally i am going to go with what the players and coaches on the field deem is the right way to go. Being successful everyday with respect to all the little things without any doubt at all leads to big picture success. Now it is possible that the manager's effect might not be as big as some think (I would not know) but it is a managers job to have as big an effect on each game as he can by putting the best team on the field daily.
