  1. That far up the line too. Sucked. i still think that it qualifies as aggressive base running but if someone said it was stupid, i would have to admit that they had a point. that far up the line! A bad throw!
  2. I really have no clue about the background or experience that anyone here really has with respect to baseball. We all love to share our opinions and thoughts for sure. I am just going to guess though that we may disagree with about anything the franchise does, what we have thought of though they have as well. We intrigue ourselves but more often than not, they do get it right.
  3. Ain't that the truth. Been there.
  4. you did say you liked "The Who"!
  5. Now we are talking my language.
  6. no no no - don't go raining on parade - Pom Pom is the man (right behind the stickman)
  7. you think? It is one of the things that tends to bother me with this type of communication. I have no idea what was said between Farrell and Pomeranz. We all assume I guess but we don't really know.
  8. Pomeranz can easily go over 91 mph When did he come out in public and say anything about Farrell? Did I miss that?
  9. blasted (really blasted!)by Baltimore Edelman injured trade in trouble tough day for us
  10. After all of that research, you hit me with this -lol I was feeling so intelligent too.
  11. Just saw that - ouch
  12. I actually agree with you here. I'm hoping that he will start to hit the way he has hit in the past. I do think that he is a classic example of how using career stats can be used to show a very unclear picture of the value a player might have in the present though.
  13. What do you think SS, would this be a good forum and time as well for me to say that none of my observations about the benefits mentally and physically of being a multi-sport athlete are based on any type of statistical data whatsoever? Just 44 years of coaching some of which included a few of the best athletes to come out of Maine. LOL - Just a joke that probably wasn't necessary.
  14. No one is disagreeing with you. I do think that money, the extension of a season, the number of pitches that have been thrown by youngsters before they even get a shot all play pivotal roles in the development of arm problems. One trend that I think is very sad to see is the emphasis on the one spot athlete. The best ones I had a chance to work with participated in more than one. We all wanted a piece of the best ones though. It didn't hurt to have to wait for them. I think the trend toward participating in more than one season will be back and quite possibly we will see fewer over use injuries as well.
  15. you are of course right with the "damage on the human arm" comment. I also agree with you with respect to Gibson and Ryan but I could fill pages of the names of pitchers who were just as tough mentally and physically as both of them. I really didn't mean to imply for one second that their ability or desire to stay in any game over shadowed or outshone many many others who pitched during their time. I don't think JF would have faired any better if he had tried to take the ball out of "gentleman Jim's" hands either. Micro managing has come a long way as well.
  16. I heard talk about them possibly trying to sign Tony Allen. I would love to see him back in Celtic green!
  17. I know that you are right but I did love those days. My love of baseball kind of was honed on the efforts of guys like Warren Spahn so I guess it is pretty obvious where i'm coming from with my opinions on pitchers today. it was enough for me to just see the look in Pomeranz's face the other night. I think that he is a lot tougher than we - including me - think he is. This is a big young kid who quite possibly has a very good few years in front of him. Since his dugout squabble with Farrell, he looks like he has pitched with a little chip on his shoulder - like maybe he has been out to prove something. I like that.
  18. very true
  19. I'm with you even though i fully understand that times have changed. Can you imagine John Farrell going out to the mound to try to take the ball away from Gibson after 5+ innings of work in which he gave up a couple of hits at best? Even better - how about Nolan Ryan! We might never have heard of JF.
  20. Another right on post - there is a time and place for everything. A ball thrown squarely to the head - even if you didn't mean to(really) can't be ignored. I'm a Chris sale guy so obviously i liked the behind the back throw at peckerhead from Baltimore even if Pedroia might not have.
  21. I've always used the 15 per inning as well. Times have changed for sure. There are lots of reasons for the change not the least of which is the lengthy extension to the season if a team should make the playoffs.
  22. I would add that Hanley's great looking career numbers might be skewed slightly by the incredible seasons he had early in his career. Obviously there have been times in recent years where he has looked like the Hanley of yesteryear but not so much now. I just want him to hit.
  23. Sorry - Betances should be gone for a long time. No excusing that one away although I'm sure he didn't mean to! lol squarely in the head for God's sake.
  24. I'm not going to do the statistical fact check but I wonder how unusual it is to use 100 pitches to get tho the 6th these days? Once again, looked to me like he didn't want his day to be done.
