  1. Once again I think that this situation depends on your perspective. it is a non-issue for me because I see the season as a whole a contest to win your division. 162 games and then you take your chances. The playoffs and a potential World Series matchup is always the goal but for me getting there first is the primary objective. if someone helps us get there and then comes up lame, i just don't see it as an issue. I would be sad of course but I tend not to look back and say what if. Naturally that does not mean that you play obviously injured players if playing them is going to make said injury worse.
  2. You have to get to the playoffs first if you have any intention of winning when you get there. The right decision was made last night with respect to Sale imo. I'm surprised that the issue was even brought up when looking at the slim lead that we have over the Yankees.
  3. I think that you are right. I know that I tend to be very picky about what I see as the little things that make up the bigger picture when it comes to the games. I think that Benintendi's defense has been getting better for a while now. Maybe even fewer gaffs on the bases. I'm much more concerned about his base running than his fielding because I think that some of his running mistakes represent mental mistakes. As for Devers, I see him as a defensive work in progress but I think that he needs a very long leash.
  4. I've noticed this with Moreland as well. i also tend to get very nervous when Holt drifts back on to the outfield grass. it is good to see Mookie coming in and calling these guys off every time he can. There is a real reason why the priority system was set up and why it is taught to every kid playing the game. Get the hell out of the way. Field your position and let the players with the better angles make your hard plays look easy.
  5. Barnes looked good last night. Looked rested. His trip to the dl was probably what he needed. Another big power arm in that bullpen. It is all about getting the ball in the strike zone for him. have to admit though that I was pretty nervous when he entered the game.
  6. I think that you might be into parallel universes.
  7. Logical observations about things you see don't even work anymore with some of these guys. I mention Moreland not coming up with the low throw from Devers last night and all of a sudden it becomes me making excuses for Devers and blaming Moreland. It is just good to have some conversation with the group here that actually understands the actual play of the game. Most of these guys that we are talking about are works in progress. They will develop and they will be fine.
  8. Where is Dewey and the dead horse??? lol
  9. I'm liking this thread primarily I guess because I liked the trade after seeing Pomeranz pitch against Detroit last summer. obviously this year has been special for him. I'm sure that it was a tough trade though to watch a young pitcher projected to be outstanding traded away. They don't come along everyday. Over the short term (as in 1,2 or 3 years) this has been a big win for us. Without him this year, I don't like our chances so much, and I like the fact that we are on top of the standings.
  10. but come on - don't you sense our team approaching the cliff because of trades such as this one?
  11. What's the deal with you Max? - The people who have posted on this particular play are people who I think know the game better than some who post here. When critiquing plays like this, yes I do think that it helps understanding if you have actually been in that situation before. No one made any accusations no one said anything strange. The error went to the person who deserved it. That being said, I was trying to give our gold glove firstbaseman the benefit of the doubt here. What I really should have said is that that particular hop is an easy play to make and he should have made it. I watched him all season like you have and if he is a gold glover at first I don't think that it says much for the rest of the first basemen in the league.
  12. i'm proud of myself for recognizing sarcasm. Margot might have been ready to step in for the potential loss of Betts or Bradley whenever i guess. Guerra might have been considered as a potential replacement for Bogaerts I guess. while we were working hard to eliminate the potential mythical cliff we could have languished in 2nd or 3rd place in the east over the years. That would have been a shitload of fun don't you think.
  13. that actually might be a good idea. i would never play any of those little no hit all glove wonders over him on this team though on a regular basis.
  14. I said earlier that at the least Moreland should have kept that ball in front of him. I'm not that impressed with him. he was a good pick up for sure but a game saver he ain't. I hate seeing him go after those high pops down the foul line.
  15. Of course it was an error but once again, i think that it could have and i guess i would say should been dug out after watching the replay . There are bad throws then there are really bad throws. That throw just wasn't all that bad. Helping or hurting? I don't think that he is helping us there but he is the one I would have there right now and quite possibly for the future.
  16. I kept sitting there last night waiting for Barnes to implode. He didn't. I'm not very proud of myself - just an old new England way of looking at things I guess. We have some serous arms in the bullpen right now. In my lifetime, I've never seen a Sox team quite like this one.
  17. Denver's throw to first last night easily could have been dug out of the dirt. I was surprised that it wasn't at least knocked down. Obviously it wasn't a good throw but not allowing the runner to get to second should have been just as important to Moreland as digging a ball out of the dirt and keeping it in front of you by any good catcher in that situation.
  18. Am I the only one here who thinks that Dever's throw really should have been dug out?
  19. I would have him back anyway but I would definitely have him back if these are the words he chose to uses. lol
  20. think you need more rest
  21. I'm with you here. He has given us quite a lot so far but it sure as hell would be nice if he could give us just a little more.
  22. I have to be honest here - I still don't get that feeling with Pomeranz that makes me think that we have a real advantage with him on the mound. He is young and I still think that he might have his best years in front of him.
  23. I don't like the ties!
  24. I don't think that it makes any difference to these guys who they play either where or when. I like that.
  25. A nice first post here. I would add that Vazquez has really surprised me with his overall performance. Vazquez and a Leon backup gives us something pretty good behind the plate.
