  1. Devers has the arm, although he needs to get more accurate for sure, to play third base at this level. His footwork did not looks so hot to me. I think that some of it has to be the transition from the minors to the majors. He is going to be a solid player for us moving ahead for sure. I don't think that anybody will rush him off the bag but you never know.
  2. Maybe he could still give us a few at second base. He might make Holt, Marrero, Lin etc. all expendable. lol
  3. Firing either Butterfield or Amaro in my opinion would be mistakes. If they don't like Butterfield as a third base coach then use him in the dugout. In those two guys, you have coaches who actually teach the game. It is a luxury to have two people so highly respected on your staff. Obviously a new manager probably gets to do his thing but getting rid of Butterfield - well just move Devers off third right now because he won't get a better teacher over there than Butter.
  4. The thought of a manager giving extra rest or shutting down a healthy top of the line ace during the middle of a season because you fear his ability to get it done in the fall is nothing short of fan blat. It would be one thing if you were not in the middle of a pennant race but ridiculous if you are.
  5. this is true but they have no rim protector at all. Hayward wasn't really a rim protector but he gave opposing big guys something to at least think about and he could score.
  6. Bring back Ben - right!! No wait - Ben wasn't the manager. What was he anyway? Where ever he is fire him again!
  7. What position does he play?
  8. After watching last night - I could be wrong.
  9. While he is at it, John Henry might just as well fire himself!
  10. He was 5'11" and as a young man looked bigger. He was very, very solid.
  11. they"ll be right behind cleveland
  12. tragic injury but he'll recover from it. Tatum will have a chance to come along faster than planned. Brown is other worldly with respect to what he does athletically. He is real young and could be real good.
  13. It normally works that way I think doesn't it? Fortunately we don't get to decide what the best package might be. It is a longshot that he winds up in Boston.
  14. We will have to wait and see won't we. I'm going with the longshot angle when it comes to Stanton coming to Boston.
  15. I mentioned this 6 weeks ago and was informed that it was all about business and jeter would do what ever. If it was just jeter making the decision, I would say no way he would ever appear in Boston. I guess that Stanton coming our way might be possible but I still think that it is a long shot.
  16. There are some posters here who truly do not get it. We really have no one who compares to Altuve in any way on our team. Not even Mookie I'm afraid. Do you think having played the game leads to a clearer understanding of these types of things? lol I could have brought up the concept of clutch but I decided to go with this one instead.
  17. For the record and as if anyone really cares, i'm really not knocking or criticizing Ben Cherington here. Regardless of how all this ultimately plays out though, I do feel better about the GM when i feel as though he is charge . DD appears to be in charge as he should be. No one is apt to be second guessing who is making the calls. We will like them or we won't.
  18. I'm pretty sure that he would not have been offered the job if Larry had still been around. They had the perfect person in Ben. Someone he probably felt he could control I guess. Big difference when it comes to Ben and DD.
  19. Never had the arm for third or short. After I got over the fact that I was destined to be a second baseman, I started to learn just how difficult that position is to play. So much happens up the middle - no snoozing allowed.
  20. I did forget to add also that having seen DD now in action, I doubt seriously that he would have much of an issue "going through" anyone. People can fault him all they want to for what he has done to date but it looks to me as though no one is going to control him. He makes decisions.
  21. Might not be all about Larry either. Maybe Ben just wasn't very good regardless of who he worked for. Who on here really knows?
  22. How much of that time when Ben was here was he really in charge. We have been informed by a few that all of the bad deals that were made when Ben was "in charge", had to have been ones either made or suggested by LL. lol
  23. I'm just a little pissed that I haven't even been considered as a replacement for that stiff Pedroia at second.
  24. Bell - really with the clutch stuff. You of all people. Must be a slow day for you. lol
  25. This really doesn't say very much for Ben I'm afraid Larry. Should we call him "the puppet"?
