  1. In Kimbrel, we are talking possibly the best or close to the best closer in the game today. If he has a year like last year, you have to make a run at him. When you have the best, I think that you have to hope that you can resign him. I'm not talking abut throwing everything that you have at the guy but you have to make a run at him. When I look at what he has meant to this team, I guess that I would have to say that outside of Sale, on the significantly important scale, he would be the next guy on my list. I think that he has been and is that important.
  2. I have believed for a long time now that unless he truly dislikes where he is playing, he's not going anywhere. You just can't tell what he might be thinking. If he has been careful just a little with the $ he has already made in the game, it very well might not be such a big deal to go some place else for happiness sake for a few less millions. He certainly has made enough to take care of his families needs forever. Now though - If he has a special season, which he could very well have, I think he will like it here just fine. Looks to me as though excellence is rewarded in Boston as much if not more than most other places. I hope Price and Sale compete in a friendly way all season long. Two gifted pitchers.
  3. You are so right there and they probably are under appreciated by a majority of people. I have been involved with athletics of one sort or another all my life and when we had two daughters one of my good friends thought that we should go for number 3 hoping for a boy for obvious at that time reasons. My response to him was why - I was pretty sure that those two girls growing up in our household would love most things sports related. They were and still are great athletes and now are raising our 5 grandchildren in homes that understand the great benefits that being invlolved in athletics can provide. 3 girls 2 boys by the way. We could not be happier. Over Easter my 6 year old wanted to show me his basketball skills and I plan to be there when he pounds out his first home run in little league some day. Great fun! Oh - by the way my Mother in Law used to hit her irons the same distance I hit mine. I was proud of her but I tried not to tell her what I was hitting on certain holes. lol
  4. I was hoping someone would help me out when I posted that. Thanks Spud - I was kind of thinking of you when I said that. I like free, I guess I have just not figured out how to do it.
  5. Gameday - think it is the way I'll be watching (sort of) the games when we go back to Florida. Don't enjoy it much but it is better than nothing plus it is still too cold for me up here. (ageing ....)
  6. Good observation - I think that for the most part you are right about that call. It's a damn demanding job camping out behind home plate day in and day out.
  7. I think that Holt would have still been out if the throw had not been on target but that was a pretty good play out there in right field. It just looked off the bat that you would probably not send the runner from second unless he had great speed. I knew that Holt was not what we would call a speedster but he did look pretty slow to me. I was surprised at that. Still could be valuable going forward but I hope for his sake that the call is a little easier when they send him next time.
  8. I'm pretty sure that I agree with all 6 of your observations. It is very early in the season for sure but I'm taking what you have written to simply be observations made after seeing them play just 4 games. Nothing wrong with that. I don't see it as a seasonal rank card just yet. Our infielders did make plays but I agree that their range as a group looks a little limited. I still think that there is great value in having guys that can make the routine plays consistently. Great range or not, you still need to make plays. Cora is going to be fine. Right now I'm sure they are going through a learning process - both players and coaches. Could be a very very good team.
  9. I would have yanked him as well. I understand what Moon is saying and agree with him also.l. My personality would have had me getting the ball from him with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd. As it is, I still think that it is kind of tough to praise him too much yesterday. That strikeout pitch he threw to end the game certain should not have been swung at. Oh well - I'm just happy that we won the game. Kelly just kind of is what he is and we need him. He can be just a little frustrating though.
  10. I'm with you on this one. Too much specialization for me. Might even be called a waste of resources at times.
  11. I love a pitcher's duel and solid defense possibly more than most. The issue I had with this series was that based on what everyone has said and written, The Rays stink.I'm going to go out on a limb (just not a very big one) and say that our pitching isn't going to be quite as consistently dominant against better competition. If we hold the yankees to 1 or 2 runs a game when we play them, you won't hear me complain about the offense one bit. I kind of liked the White Sox of the late 50's! lol
  12. I'm not really I guess. I was just disappointed as I'm sure most of us were with their inability to make much hard contact. I'm suffering from a last year hangover.
  13. JD is going to be just fine - Benintendi, Ramirez, JBJ, Vazquez, Leon - need to produce as well as others - hope it happens.
  14. I like this and I know that I am suffering from something because I want them to hit better than they did last year. Hope it happens.
  15. I'm concerned too but I also think that 4 games is way too soon to assume that this is who they are going to be. What bothers me was the lack of guys driving the ball anywhere. There were some shots but way to many weak outs against a team that we have been led to believe isn't much better than a solid triple A club. It is pretty obvious that they are going to have to hit soon.
  16. I think that 3 of the guys you mentioned will be just fine. The guy named beni - I hope to hell so. He looked somewhat weak to me regardless of how his newly acquired strength is supposed to help him. We need him to hit. JD I think will be fine. I'm worried about the rest of the boys. I'm a show me what you got kind of guy and I do not think that a team with just 4 or 5 solidly productive hitters is enough.
  17. I don't think that you have to worry about JD. He drove a couple shots this weekend. He will hit. As for the rest of the gang, let's hope - lets go.
  18. I sure and hell would not consider trading him right now. I wouldn't trade anybody who even looks as though they might hit right now. The all powerful rays holding these guys to 10 runs in 4 games is pathetic whether we won 3 or not.
  19. I don't know if the weight he gained was gained the right way or not. I also am hoping that although we have all heard about how hard Benintendi worked to get stronger during the off season, I am really hoping that it translates into good hitting. It can but it doesn't always work that way. I'm hoping that they will hit but I am not an unquestioning believer that what we saw out of some of them last was not who they really are. They need to hit!
  20. I know that he was never what we would consider fast but I never saw him as sloth like either. Pretty sure most when have been thrown out on that one but he literally had no chance.
  21. Thought I remembered Holt being quite a lot faster. Out by a mile. Is he a little heavier than he used to be?
  22. I don't disagree with any part of your post. The debate comes when people start talking about what is a good decision and what isn't. There are a ton of factors that could enter into this one. For obvious reasons I guess, I see all of these things or try to anyway from a coaches' perspective.
  23. So seriously is it time we sat benintendi down as well. No free passes right!
  24. A good post once again. I don't agree with some of it but that makes no difference. At this point in time, with Bogaerts I would say that it is all about him and his health. If any coach helped him, they must not have worked with Benintendi, Bradley and others. When Bogey is healthy, we have seen this before.
