  1. Nice - I'm wondering what Alex is thinking right about now
  2. 3 hits - Is that what we have today?- that is a huge joke
  3. Price looks outstanding and oh so did that kid who pitched for the Rays. What's his name again? lol
  4. I've loved the game since my Grandfather introduced me to it back in the very early sixties - But hey I love the incredible challenge it presents everyday(don't believe - try it)- I like practicing - I like being alone- I love match play - tournament play in general- I've met some of the nicest people I could know on the course- I love to walk (roughly between 5 and 7 miles per round - it works for me but what the hell I ran marathons too. Kind of a similar experience in many ways.
  5. So in Tampa it was either the turf or the cursed stadium - don't know about Miami - today it is too cold - so let's see what conditions do these guys need to hit?
  6. We've made plays i guess but why does it look like our defense isn't really that good.
  7. Nunez looked like he was trying to field a snowball.
  8. Just out of curiosity - Am I right when I say that I remember Matt Williams falling asleep in the Nationals' dugout a few years ago?
  9. Or maybe just bitching about other people bitching! lol
  10. One more I'm afraid for you. I like the team in general a helluva lot more than I do Hanley but none the less I'll be pulling for him because of how he could help this team. if he plays well, his vesting option is meaningless to me because I think that it will mean that our team will be in the midst of a great season. I like to win.
  11. I've always felt that the pitcher has the advantage in cold weather. Might be more prone to injury though when it is as cold as it is today.
  12. or eating the lead paint
  13. You are probably right about that. Maybe - I might start (oh boy) to feel more comfortable with Smith than most of the rest of the guys. Let's face it - most of these guys are pitching relief because they couldn't make it as starters. I disagreed and continue to disagree with the idea that we absolutely needed to add more starters to back up the guys we already have. When Pomeranz and E-rod come back, we are going to have 3 guys that could still become very useful for us going forward. Johnson isn't going anywhere as long as he continues to pitch well and if he gets moved to the bullpen, I really like the looks of it. I kind of like our overall potential depth and I'm glad that we didn't sign anymore slugs.
  14. How about a ball hit right on the bat handle. I can still remember that feeling!
  15. Ain't that the truth. It is why that as much as I like Kelly's power arm, I am never really comfortable with him. It is also a reason why I would never consider having Wright in the bullpen.
  16. It is an interesting concept - randomness. I think that it is much easier to comment about things like this in hindsight. What ifs if you will. Managers will continue to make decisions during every game that is played. Maybe in certain situations the impact is great and perhaps in some it would make no difference whether they were there or not. My preference will always be to have someone calling the shots who actually makes decisions based on what they feel are right in the moment. I'll take my chances with those guys. Hindsight allows us to scrutinize every move they make. When there are no managers and no coaches, maybe then we will actually know how much of a difference a good one might make.
  17. Hembree and Kelly I think will both have their ups and downs - they are not going anywhere. Their good days can be great but on the bad days - oh boy. They both are going to help us but I am rarely comfortable with either one of them coming in when the game is on the line. I might actually feel the same way about Barnes. I think that Smith is going to have an excellent year and nothing else needs to be said about Kimbrel. Walden has a good arm but man oh man has he looked hittable. Poyner is similar to Johnson. they kind of came along together. They both know how to pitch. They can get guys out. If the choice between Poyner and Walden had to be made today - I would send Walden down. I like Johnson as a starter but moving him to the pen could help them become a very very good bullpen. Obviously I'm thinking that Brian Johnson could become a key player for us going forward. You just don't have to have that big power arm to get the job done. I like relief pitchers who throw strikes and don't walk people.
  18. With respect to our bullpen, I think the landscape changes when E-Rod and Pomeranz both return. I think that it is likely that Johnson goes to the pen which gives our bullpen a pretty good look if you ask me.
  19. Oh for Gods sake - change the a to u and you are good to go.
  20. I agree but I think you know what I am saying. I think that there are many things that enter into when and where you choose to sit your players so that they are rested. I don't think that planned rest days for anyone should be determined very far into the future and I hope that that is not the case here.
  21. I agree with you for the most part. I also agree that a travel day isn't necessarily a rest day although I'm pretty sure that that plane ride affects me more than it does them. I also realize that it is a 162 game season - very long (too long). I think that I probably place more significance on early season games than some do. That's just me. With respect to getting plenty of rest before the playoffs begin, that is where I know that I see things differently than some. I just don't think that you assume you are going to make the playoffs regardless of how good you tend to think your team is. Lots of things can happen and you have to get to the playoffs first. I believe in resting players and keeping them fresh as much as the next guy, I just wouldn't plan their days off weeks in advance. I hope that that isn't happening. I'm "old age" - lol - Great day tomorrow for us - Sox open at home and THE MASTERS!
  22. The philosophy is great. I just hope that they don't already have the dates circled on the calendar for when each player gets his off day. I still like just a little spontaneity. I like Cora and think that he is going to be fine but the decision to rest Betts on this particular day still is puzzling. They have plenty of rest days coming up.
  23. Thanks Lou - that was so long ago it had to be Lou Gorman right?
  24. I just woke up - bad dream - thought I was stuck in last year with this offense
