  1. What you think Brockie called him a bad name? What Brock Holt said has 0 to do with Austin's slide being dirty or not. Maybe you can teach me something about baseball here. I've told you why that slide was indeed a dirty slide. You get to tell me why it wasn't. the only justification I can think of for him coming into second this way would be : 1. He is stupid 2. He hasn't been taught how to slide - not likely but you never know or 3. He doesn't like the rule - I don't either so I'm ok with this one.
  2. For me I guess so - I'm not very smart. Sorry jad if you were just trying to lighten things up - I'm still pissed about that slide and yes I do think that if the rule had not been changed, Austin's next slide into second base would have been one helluva lot closer to the ground or he would have been eating the ball.
  3. My guess is this - Austin's reaction caught Vazquez by surprise. Next time and I think there likely will be next time, Vazquez will show up big time.
  4. Where is this coming from? Anybody even come close to suggesting that?
  5. It's supposed to be a pop up slide. Lead foot hits the bag momentum allows you to pop up. Believe it or not you just aren't supposed to slide through the bag with your spikes up.
  6. Ive been spiked at second base. Saying that Holt over reacted to being spiked on a slide where the lead league did not come close to touching the bag, causes you to lose credibility here with me. Most of us here, although I think that is becoming more and more obvious that some did not, have actually played the game and have been coached. Some of us here have coached. If you honestly think that the position of Austin's foot was where it should be then I'm sorry but you don't know nearly as much about the game of baseball as you try to make people believe you do. Austin probably is a fairly lucky guy because if the rule had not been changed the method of defense used the next time he slid into second base possibly would have seen him catching a ball squarely in his face. Old School I guess in this day and age but it worked.
  7. I agree with Remy on this one - I don't like the rule. I was a second baseman and had to learn the hard way to get the hell out of the way. I would never defend a spikes up slide where that lead foot is not moving to the bag in any way. I don't know if Austin was literally trying to spike him or not but he was trying to break up a double play. I think that the rule and the way I guess that it is interpreted is going to lead to more slides like this. If you are a second baseman or a ss and you don't have to get off the bag, that is a pretty good deal.
  8. It isn't so much about hitting guys or fighting in general it's about being a team made up of guys who support each other. No more - "It wasn't me" crap I guess. I hope that Joe Kelly showed people what I guess he is actually made of last night. He didn't run! I'm 100% in.
  9. Oh man - I am old - fell asleep again last night but hard to imagine that anyone would think that Johnson was going to resurface again tonight. After Price went down, it might even be possible that Cora realized that he has to use him as a starter for a while. lol People just find new ways to continually bitch and moan about anything. My only gripe about last night was Vazquez. I watched the replay many times and I guess each time I expected him to make a more aggressive move to keep Austin form getting to kelly. Although maybe he had a hunch what might happen to Austin when he got there. lol again
  10. Wow Harmony - How much courage does it take to spike a guy at second base who is half your size? It's the way the game has been played since it was created. Plus - that is Kelly's change up.
  11. You can't be serious. What part of "it's not the size of the dog that's in the fight, it's the size of the fight that's in the dog" do you not understand? Looks to me by the way they some of the "bruisers" behaved in this one that I would take Joe Kelly over any one of your big boys.
  12. Not too of a play for a stiff out there. lol
  13. And and and come on - He got a hit last night.
  14. Hey come on everybody - Rest day for Beni I guess and guess who is in left field? I bet you guessed.
  15. lol - We should be 10 and 0 right. That should be reason enough to bitch and moan a little right there.
  16. There is no question about that in my mind. The ball he hit about as far as you can one without having it go out last night still looked to me like his swing was cramped.
  17. I don't disagree with you really at all but I have complained about his streaky hitting for years now and I know that I am not alone but still anybody who knows anything knows that he is our best option in centerfield. No one is saying anything different at all. Not sure how you are bringing in JD's hitting or lack thereof into this discussion but I'm thinking that most people are smart enough to know that yup he is going to hit. Bradley on the other hand - I hope so - but really who the f*** knows with him. Doesn't mean we don't want him out there. Complaining about a guys hitting who is as streaky as Jackie is I think can be expected.
  18. I'm with you on this one. The guy hits balls of the fists farther than most do off the fat of the bat. I think that his teammates are pretty pleased that he is in the middle of our lineup.
  19. Slasher - really who are all of these people who want to see guys in our current lineup benched or platooned? Do you mean all of these people as in Moon for the platoon (haven't heard that from anyone else with respect to Benintendi) and wasn't there one other guy here who thinks that we should bring somebody up from Salem to play for JBJ.lol Here's the deal - Jbj is currently the very best option to play centerfield. No one in their right mind disagrees with that. Benintendi is a hitter and there is no way Cora is going to sit him versus anybody. Everybody seems pretty happy to me! But I don't get out much. Maybe there are still a few people here who are pissed that we aren't 10 and 0.
  20. JBJ is for sure a defense first guy but as for the rest of the current bunch although I am sure that we all agree that they have been making plays, maybe I'm alone here but everytime a ball is hit on the infield grass I get a little nervous.
  21. If he caught them, what are the odds right now that he could hit them? lol - I think that he will break out soon.
  22. Me too - If I had known before hand that Johnson was going to get some work, I would have set my alarm.
  23. Halleluya (sp) - I was wrong I guess about Benintendi.
  24. He even looks like he knows its anybodies game when its hit in his direction.
