  1. Perhaps they have realized that he has a chronic condition - bats attract his pitches. lol No joking though - Our bullpen has been fine for the most part. All of this talk about playoff performance ain't making it for me. First of all you have to get there and secondly if you do a new season begins. i don't even consider what anyone has done in prior playoff seasons. How many times have I been lectured here about how good or maybe even great players tend to play to the level that the stats say they should? There are no playoff only superstars. I like tough guys who get it done during the regular season. We have a bunch of them including the pitchers. If we get to the playoffs and we are not successful, it will have nothing to do with what any of these guys have done in the past. it is all about right now. i like our guys.
  2. Sorry I guess but it is just me. Giving any one person credit for any win or any loss is absolute ******** in my way of looking at things. The only reason that I post on a thread dealing with the wonderful accomplishments of GMs is because i really cannot believe the great like or dislike for any of them in general. They play a substantial role - that is it. The constant comparison of a beginning GM like cCherington to a seasoned veteran like Dombrowski in my opinion is ridiculous - no comparison. If and when Ben Cherington gets another chance, I hope that he is ready for the job and that he succeeds.
  3. Good to hear. We can now listen to all of the Price and Pomeranz haters.
  4. Having this type of affection for any GM is a mystery to me unless someone is related to them then I get it.
  5. He won nothing. He played a role in the team winning.
  6. I'm not disagreeing with you but there have been plenty (many more than one) of people here who continue to give this man no real credit for being an average defender out there. I'm not sure who you mean SS by some people. On this forum for the most part it would be me. I've never even suggested that he is better than average. What I have said is that he does not hurt us in the outfield. I'll stand by that as well as stating how I feel about anyone who loves the defensive metrics so much that they are willing to not accept the fact that he hasn't been bad at all out there for us. I'm not suggesting that you do that but there are people that do.
  7. No one drooling here and no one comparing him to your boy. What I'm saying I guess is that there is no way he is as bad as lots of people paint him out to be. I also don't think that that catch was easy for anyone with any size to make. Different game when you are 5'10" and weigh maybe 180. It is just like the people who s*** on Price all the time as far as I am concerned.
  8. This I understand and it is the only reason I would encourage him to accept that dh role a little more. It would have 0 to do with his fielding ability out there. He isn't bad at all but no one wants to see this guy get hurt.
  9. Price looked really pretty good last night as did JD in the outfield.
  10. My goodness! Why would anyone do that anywhere? With respect to *******s, I don't think Texas has the edge over anywhere else do you?
  11. Texas = big hat no cattle lol
  12. Sale throwing the baseball as hard as he threw it in 2010 also looks pretty damn good going forward.
  13. The Raptors I think can see what the future is going to bring. One last shot and it wasn't going to happen with DeRozian. They won't be able to resign ding dong Leonard, he will head to LA - glad it isn't Boston. They'll blow that roster up i bet.
  14. Beeks is young and may some day be decent. Probably I am not much of a fan of his I guess. I don't think that this team needs to do anything at all. If they can become even just semi-healthy they are going to be fine. Trying to sign some over the hill drone when you have Johnson, Valezuez, and possibly Pomeranz, would be a waste in my estimation. I think it is very likely that Phillips will be coming on board to help as well. Contrary to most, i see our bullpen is a strength as long as they get over the thought that Kelly is a legit 8th inning option. i could see DD going after a young power arm if they do not think that they can sign Kimbrel to a contract that works. Other than that, I see no reason to change much with these guys. They like each other - they pull for each other - they play hard. The dubs are gone! I realize too that there are plenty of Price haters here one of which I am not. If Pedroia gets a free pass which it appears he has in the eyes of many, then so should Price. Price certainly can still help us whether people think that he throws like a 2-3 or 4 and that he is overpaid.
  15. Hey - Spud has got nothing on me when it comes to be snarky which by the way is a ******** word. I'm accused of it quite often when I don't fall in line. LOL Seriously now I think that we all have something to offer here. Personally I tend just simply not to like people who think that they are constantly correct. No one is regardless of whether you are predominantly a believer in all things statistical or not. There is no one right way to look at things. Personally I will always lean toward the people who have experience - real experience - either playing or coaching the game. Not to mention the fact that I like real bullshitters - people who can laugh at themselves - of which it seems we have in abundance.
  16. stat heads are communists might be a little extreme but hey Hitch remember - keep the politics out of it!!! LOL
  17. he did help us win a world series. I do not give any GM credit for winning us a world series. If you look at things this way then it has to be acknowledged that he failed to keep us competitive. If you are going to give any one person this kind of credit then you have to assume that they are responsible for the failures as well. I do not look at things this way but if I did there would be no question in my mind but he was a failure over his term. the world series win is the topping on the cake for me. I am much more interested in the overall hunt to get there.
  18. E- Rod and his injury history scares me. it was good to see him actually throwing well but I guess I do question his overall fitness level and toughness. I'm putting him close to the same category as Wright at this point in time. Maybe he is just unlucky or maybe he isn't really in very good shape for a big young guy. what ever I'm not counting on him for much from here on out based on how long it seems to take him to heal. I still think that we are ok though.
  19. Now I get it. I think that I pretty much felt the same way you did after I had watched him a bit. I'll say it again - He is the face of the franchise - also I 'll say again though that no one could have seen this one coming. No scout - no GM - no anybody could have predicted this.
  20. It is never an easy thing for a pitcher to cover first base for sure but it is a lot tougher for a left hander than it is for a righty. Sale's overall fitness level gives him an advantage over most. He is a lot lot lot quicker than the average left hander is getting over there.
  21. You and I Moon are going to disagree on this one I'm afraid. The satisfaction of winning a World Series championship is for sure a great thing and i truly appreciate the efforts of all who helped us get them. I think that I am different I guess because honestly it is more about the hunt the chase for a title for me. I have not been spoiled by what this team has done in the past. Every year is different and i enjoy the season as I think that you do from March to as long as we go into the fall. Personally the season represents a life cycle for me in a way. Gives me something to really look forward to daily I guess. There is too much luck involved during the second season for me to worry too much about it. For me it really is all about getting there and then I am absolutely willing to take what happens in the playoff season which I think is far to long. Winning a World Series championship clearly doesn't mean as much to me as it does to most I guess. I don't expect them regardless of how many regular season games we win and I would never hold a GM responsible for not winning one. A good GM puts you in a position to win year after year. I think that is exactly what is happening right now and I am overjoyed by that.
  22. Wait - You had your eye on a 6th?round draft pick who at the time was projected to be a second baseman. Whoever drafted him just got s*** lucky. It is what happens with many draft picks. There are no sure things and sometimes greatness doesn't appear until it drops into your lap. We all got lucky.
  23. I've never been able to understand this. I'm glad that we have won our championships but since I have always felt that in this modern era when you have to play what seems like 4000 playoff games, you really have to be lucky to win the big one. It is like playing another mini-season. I want a team that competes and has a chance every year. I will never be tolerant of finishing last so that we can - repeat after me - wait till next year. The early to mid 60's sucked for me. No excuse for a large market team like the Sox to ever finish last. I want them to compete and if they should win it is all good.
