it is just me notin - I'll admit I am a huge Chris Sale fan not just because of his pitching ability. Everything about him screams tough tough athlete to me. i like guys like him. He has been on the dl this year but I choose not to buy into the thought that this marks the beginning of the end for him. He certainly wan't the same the other night but that could be due to many things one of which could actually be inactivity. The impression i'm getting from you is that it is just inevitable from here on out that he will just be going downhill. I don't think that anyone can say that with any certainty. Is this where you give me the facts and figures again that verify your beliefs about aging athletes ? lol

I don't care what you discuss. I like a general discussion as much as the next person. It is also a forum that is filled with opinion and conjecture. Why should Chris Sale's future with the Red Sox be a topic on a thread dealing with the realities of 2018? I don't mind at all if people want to float the idea that he is too old or too injury prone to sign to a future contract. I am surprised and a little confused as to why that seems to be a topic for discussion at this time. But since we are talking about it, suggesting that his demise is inevitable because of the injury he has had and maybe still has in my opinion might be a little premature.

Do you think that it is purely a baseball myth notin? I have always kind of believed I guess that many ml pitchers really wanted to throw a strike to most hitters with their first pitch. 3 hits and any kind of a dose of Workman I doubt cuts it though.

I guess I am confused which would not be the first time. When did this become a thread discussing a possible long term contract to Chris Sale? He did have a horrible night last night. He didn't throw a bunch of fastballs but I thought he got a few moving a little faster than 91 mph. You may very well be right that he is hurt. Maybe it is just me - maybe it is out of loyalty for a pitcher who quite honestly I have enjoyed watching as much as any I have ever watched. yes that also means that I think that he is as talented as any who ever wore the Sox uniform. We all have our favorites - he is my kind of player. He has an injury history that has amounted to next to nothing and I am amazed that anyone has reached a point that they are even talking about his impending demise.

I'm a little surprised at this. I do not think that anyone should think that notin is "dead on" about his Chris Sales opinions. I guess that we are all entitled to our opinions and personal beliefs. Im not quite ready to give up on the guy just yet who has given us so much and who has been so dominant. A speed bump maybe but I think that it is a little premature to start the Chris Sale impending demise thread.

Slow down boys. i doubt seriously that it ever becomes a situation of one or the other. I think that they are both equally great at what they do.

Ok Max - so how about this - the Yankees got so so lucky to get within one run of the Sox and it is a good thing that Nunez and Pearce did what they did. Vazquez little fly ball to right does not mean much to me with respect to how much game time he should get moving forward. I'm happy that he hit the ball and am particularly happy that he was in Yankee stadium when he hit it.

I think that the teams that are and have been the most successful over the many years since FA began still in fact understand that building a team with your own talent through your minor league system is the way to go for sure. FA exists as a luxury of the wealthier owners and franchises if you ask me. It is not an end all to success and any team that thinks that it is is going to fail. You have to understand though that I do not share that the idea that Dombrowski is a farm system destroyer. There are certainly people posting here that because they disagree with some of his moves will adamantly proclaim that he is. I don't buy that for one single second but understand I think the cliff concept is horseshit as well.

What I would say and I mean sincerely - I like not only what Chris Sale has done but the way he approaches this game as well as the kind of teammate that he is. He is beyond tough physically and mentally. I truly hope that he gets the payday the market indicates that he deserves. When you think about the dolts that have been grossly overpaid when reaching his age, it makes me cringe. I hope that Boston can afford him but if he gets paid somewhere else oh well - we move on.

Your assumption certainly is flawed when you paint everyone with the same broad brush. Age catches up with all of us but you seem to think that there might be some magical age that clearly delineates some sort of timeline. It is always a game of chance. I think that Sale may hold up longer than you seem to think that he will.

you better rethink your application for that Mets job notin. They may have a contract clause saying you can't post to Talksox.

I'm really happy that i view things this way. It makes me happier. I hope that I never turn in to someone who has to win it all to be satisfied. It has always been about the chase the hunt for me. Money spent by mega rich people never has meant much to me. it is theirs and they get to spend what they have the way the choose to. This has been a fantastic and mega successful season. I hope that we keep it going!

No one is arguing what you have said but i don't think that saying 31 million dollars per year for a top of the line pitcher currently at any age has any real meaning at all. There are extremely few professional athletes who represent bargains to me. They are all grossly overpaid with respect to the "real" money that I have to deal with and i'm not suffering. The rich owners are so rich (and I'm ok with that - It is their money and they have earned it) they obviously can pay just about anything for anybody. They are not likely to start doing business the way i have too with respect to the old budget. And yes, I really hope that Chris Sale gets his big payday. it may or may not be with Boston. IMO no entertainer is worth this type of money but he sure as hell is worth as much as any of them and will likely continue to be for awhile. hey for the record, in this country currently everybody likes to bitch about how well the rich are doing and how they are just getting richer but few seem to object to the gross over payment for the entertainers that we support. Guess its just boils down to what is important to society. Only in America I guess and I am damn glad that I am here.

Oh and I almost forgot - Father Time seemed to miss the boat just a little with guy on the hill for the Astros tonight. For a guy his age, he seems to have held up fairly well. In many cases, age is what you want it to be - just a number.

hey - how about that Moon - we agree. No one is going to argue with what statistics indicate happens to players as they age but every now and then someone does come along who shows us that the statistics are not always correct. Chris Sale could be one of those guys.
