  1. Oh yea...it was a miracle. He got out to the field and yelled "let me pitch" after he heard Gammons saying yesterday on Felger and Mazz that he was valuable and everybody in the club house loved him and it would be "stupid" to get rid of him. Ah... the power of positive reinforcement.
  2. Thanks Laser and Bell for the Arod info.
  3. I can't agree that even the first 10 would have been worth that kind of money....So he would have gone 2004-2014 on the first contract?? Nah....and he is such an unlikable s***. Now Joe Mauer is on waivers....... way too much money on his contract too....but he has a LOT going for him
  4. No long term--- expensive--- soon to decline---- free agents. I look at ARod and laugh. The Yanks got taken big time with him, yet teams keep bidding on them ( yea..talking to you Theo)
  5. Interesting that many of the posters who attacked the "pink hats" and any body who became a fan after they did may be those same people who departed the board and the Sox with the losing season. Seems to me that those rabid fans really don't support the team...just a winning team
  6. The Republicans will be the only game in town......who brings a convention to FL in August...with or without a hurricane
  7. I heard a number of newspaper guys yesterday repeatedly saying that they can't jump back into the fire by buying every attractive FA who comes up, expecially not long term. Hopefuly there was a lesson learned about longterm free agents....but who knows.
  8. At the risk of hero worshippers getting angry, this should have been done to Pedroia when he flapped his mouth the first time " ...not how we do things around here..."
  9. Ortiz hurt himself last night? Apparently it was not healed. Will it ever be or is this a chronic painful injury on someone his age ? Looks like the one year contract in the only way to go with him now,
  10. Interesting to read what people had to say in January in light of today's activities
  11. #6...The thought of seeing Lackey for even one game makes me gag. Apparently he will be really, really difficult to get rid of...one of the early Theo bone headed signings...before the AG and CC contracts.
  12. Jeez, we have gone from BC being a doofus to being the golden boy who single-handedly made the trade. The reactions from some people are bipolar---huge highs and terrible lows. Just let it play itself out and we can continue to assess the new players, the Sox in general, BC and LL and not declare that we are now in Utoopia led by the golden god BC.
  13. Seriously, who WANTS to go to a funeral? You go out of obligation, out of respect, out of friendship. There are as many reasons for going as not going. 4 went, the other 21 ( as you said) had their reasons for not going. We understand that. We also understand that everybody's actions are judged. You don't go to Aunt Martha's service, family members will have an opinion on it and maybe you will hear about it if you dare show up for the family Christmas. As a public figure, the judgement is on a larger scale and it is public.
  14. A player? Why would that be the only person who would respect the tradition of being a member of the RS. Isn't that part of being a fan? I am sure that you joined in the happiness of celebrating the 100th year? The players were celebrated as PART of that day, but the stands were filled him fans and many more saw it in TV. Wearing the RS uniform has always been seen as pretty special ...and you are questioning that? In regard to some previous points made, I didn't expect the entire team to march in a procession like a Boy Scout group marching in their town's Memorial Day Parade. And some people were correct that all the players did not have a real connection to JP and maybe they would be given a pass. But I am sure there would be another 5 or so players for whom there might be expectations that they show up out of RESPECT to JP and the Sox.
  15. It was actually funny. Uninvited people could not post the lineup ( and were directly told so ) since there was a particular poster who had that job..then the job was passed among several people so designated...and now most of them don't show up at all.
  16. So now it is clear they suck both on and off the field
  17. We can go back to the points made at various times in the past. Are you a fan of the name on the front or the name on the back? These guys are just rented by the Sox. LL was on screen talking about over 100 people represented the Red Sox ORGANIZATION at the funeral. The rentals didn't show to a great degree.
  18. You've said this a couple of times as if it is an amazingly original and unheard of thought.....but yea.....there is anger at the Sox players for sucking since Sept 2011 and anything they do that is outside what is commonly accepted behavior will be cause for further anger. If they were winning, they would be given a pass. NO question there. That then opens up the question would the same group of guys be different in some way if they were winning? And would a winning group of guys go willingly to the service?
  19. The mention of busses is totally ridiculous. The story is that 4 players showed up. The why and how are not important, just the who and the what since the story appeared on the "gossip" page. Who was there is the essence of that page. The gossip women drew their own conclusions as people will. People here will draw their own conclusions....that is what gossip columns and message boards are for. You don't have to agree with or like other people's conclusions.
  20. Of course people love the team, the name on the f front of the shirt --the history and all it has been for years. Too often people get caught up in hero worship of the name on the back of the shirt. Those guys come and go. The team stays.
  21. Hell, it is a west coast thing. Look at Manny...he was pure until he went west to the Dodgers
  22. At least they made a start...cleaned house with the coaching staff
  23. This is like a Middle School altercation with everybody casting blame on the other people. Shoppach said he didn't write the text and wasn't even there, FO says there was no text...it was a regular meeting, AG says it was his phone but her never read the text and DP is all pissy and just will not talk to the media any more. Just puts on his ear buds and walks out of the locker room ( which is the best thing to come out of this). Just hit and don't talk.
  24. Great line from Carfaldo's front page story in the GLOBE this morning "In regard to Lester being left in the July 22 game, Pedroia acknowledged that he had a problem with it and other players did as well, but he added,"Titio did it a few times a year and I let him hear about it. Stuff like that happens all the time." I LET HIM HEAR ABOUT IT!!! I guess that's how we do things around here.
