You're preaching to the choir on that point. The only real question is did the Red Sox screw the pooch in historic fashion, or did Mookie hardball-negotiate his way out of town?

Mookie is a fantastic player, but was he great for the Red Sox franchise? I'm not so sure. We're going on limited info, but he did turn down multiple offers and seemed to take a hardball line with the team. On the other hand you have Xander Bogaerts who signed an extension for one-third of what Mookie was looking for.

I think Bloom's patient approach will pay off for us over the long run. But this year he's still in a tough spot. If we don't crack .500, a large part of the fanbase will either be tuned out or expressing discontent. Chaim knew what he was getting into here, though.

Find me the smaller guys who compare to what he's done so far in his career. He's got exception written all over him, I'd say. Still, 12 years is a long time.

For me it only reinforces that trading Mookie was a long-term decision. They weren't just thinking about 2021 and luxury tax. They were resigned to the fact they weren't going to pay him as much as what he wanted and he would be a free agent, so they had to trade him. And they think the flexibility part will last until 2032, so even if they semi-punt this year, they could be more aggressive in a year or two.

Surely to God someone is going to sign Porcello. MLBTR predicted he'd only get 1 year and $5 million. I don't get it. He's still durable and the advanced stats still like him.

Sorry, Kimmi. But please, don't take me too seriously. It's just a way to vent some frustration. If we make another decent signing or too, I'll feel better.

I agree. Bauer is taking advantage of great timing here. And maybe a little of that sticky stuff...(his spin rates were crazy last year and he pretty much told everyone why).

You can't really go too far over and expect to be able to get back under. If you go over by $5 million, you'd have to be able to unload guys with total AAV's of at least $15 million at the deadline to recover the $5 million.

Not if they sign Odorizzi and Ozuna, though. We'd be over by $25-30 mill.
