  1. A whole lot of pitchers are having good nights this season all over baseball.
  2. More brain-dead managing by Boone (not walking Mullins) leads to a loss.
  3. Wow, talk about corroborating posts LOL
  4. They made offers in previous years, including one for 8/$200 mill that he said he came close to accepting - and might have, if his mother didn't sort of talk him out of it.
  5. The unpleasantness really didn't arise until they traded him. And was doubled, of course, when he signed with the Dodgers.
  6. Yes, we've talked about this before. My guess is that when they got Mookie's demand, they saw no hope for a resolution at their number. Maybe they didn't want things to get drawn-out and public and unpleasant? It's all speculation.
  7. I don't know. If the reports are accurate, Mookie asked for $420 million. My theory is that the Red Sox line in the sand was somewhere around $350 million. Keeping in mind that this was 2 years before his free agency, that would be very reasonable.
  8. It wasn't quite the lowball insult that Lester's was.
  9. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion. With the possible exception of Swihart's Ghost.
  10. OTOH the 2021 Red Sox are showing you can win without Mookie.
  11. I would say hiring Bloom and allowing Cora back are two more feathers in Henry's cap.
  12. These Rays guys really know pitching. Not just how to spot good pitchers, but how to get the most out of each one.
  13. Have to count that one as a surprise. He was on some folks' jettison list.
  14. Yep, built too much like a Transformer.
  15. The Red Sox are always going to have some high-priced players. If you look at the Dodgers, they said screw it to luxury tax considerations when they signed Bauer and retained Turner. They're over $260 K.
  16. I agree, but to be fair, Verdugo's cost may also go up rather sharply when his arb years start.
  17. He's hurt. "Lower body issue" is all Boone will disclose. Hip issue maybe?
  18. Not sure what that has to do with anything. We were rather desperate for front-line pitching and in a window to compete for a title. That's why.
  19. Oh yeah, I'm sure that's what JD Martinez was thinking about when he said that.
  20. I'm sure they took a lot into consideration. But when you're talking about a guy who may be one of the best in baseball history, and you're the super-wealthy Boston Red Sox, it offends me to think they would let short-term budget and tax factors govern their efforts to retain him.
  21. I don't really care what JDM said, although I love him as a hitter. Let's repeat it one more time: the Red Sox offered Mookie $300 million over 10 years. If he said yes, that's $30 million, ain't it...
  22. One thing I've noticed that seems strange is that the Canadian sports channels are showing hardly any MLB games outside of Jays games this year. They used to show a pile of other games. That and the fact the Red Sox are playing so well is going to push me into an Extra Innings subscription.
  23. Gausman is pitching very well for the Giants. As moon would say, where are those who laughed at the idea of him being worth the Qualifying Offer?
