I have no idea exactly how the discussions went. I suspect the medical people involved couldn't absolutely say that surgery was required or was the best option.

I really think the shifts are what created the mess. And as much as we like to talk about beating the shift by going oppo a lot more, very few hitters are capable of doing it. Verdugo can, LeMahieu can. Not many. We used to love it when Big Papi dropped a bunt on the shift. But how many times did he actually do it? You can count them on one hand, I think. His response was generally the same as most guys with power - hit it over the shift or over the fence.

If you look at runs scored as the measure of offense, it's not the worst since 1968, in fact there have been many years that runs per game were lower than the current 2021 average of 4.36. What we're really talking about is the brand of offense we're seeing.

Worst case scenario, it's a precursor to Tommy John. FWIW Cora says this isn't serious. We'll see.

That grade was for the trade last year. Mitch was a free agent at the end of the season. Dalbec has upside and is hopefully getting it going now.

Mike Chavis not starting although he had a home run last night doesn't really qualify as a head-scratcher. -
I might even say he's doing more than that, considering our record. IMHO one of the key moves by Bloom was re-hiring Cora. Based on the reports, he was conflicted about it because of the cheating stuff and they had some intense discussions, but Cora ultimately won him over.

I think that's a strawman about his physique. I don't think anyone here has seriously suggested he'll break down because he's too small.

I looked through his game logs and couldn't find anything like this. Taylor pitched well in 2019. Last year was a writeoff. This year has been shaky but he's done well in his last 5 appearances.

I can accept 6/3 as a Quality Start because a) it's the baseline; and the 6 innings part is clearly good.

I like this, although I would say that only two of the changes should be slam-dunks - the 5/2 and the 8/4. With the 3 and 4 inning quality starts, the question arises whether this was actually what the team needed. 3 innings leaves 6 to cover for the pen. But in some cases, obviously, like with a spot starter, 3 scoreless innings might be getting the job done.
