  1. Yes, but obviously they wanted another lefty. And Perez has good numbers against lefties. Just hasn't validated 'em.
  2. Baseball is so much about the analytics and game planning now. There was some talk that the Red Sox might have detected pitch tipping by Houston pitchers that contributed to our offensive barrage. I think the Houston people went to work and figured some things out. Now we have to do the same.
  3. Personally, I'd stay far away from him, just as you would.
  4. Complaints about Perez should probably be directed toward the front office rather than Cora. Bloom signed the guy two years in a row. And at the trade deadline, the only lefty he added to the pen was Austin Davis. Leaving Cora with one good lefty in the pen, Taylor, plus Perez and DHern.
  5. Well, in fairness, the Yankees have made the playoffs a high percentage of those 18 years. Sure he'd get a job. But his resume is losing some luster in my books. I infinitely prefer Bloom.
  6. Yeah, one pennant in the last 18 years just doesn't cut it, when you're the Yankees and spending $200 million plus a year.
  7. Trying to sneak in a CERA reference there, I see.
  8. Umps are just men trying to do a job, like most of us. Calling balls and strikes accurately is demonstrably extremely difficult, and even the best umps have an error rate. Giving them some help from technology just seems to make sense.
  9. This makes no sense whatsoever!!! Houck gave a game-tying 2-run bomb to Altuve in Game One, did you forget that? And you're trying to blame Cora for turning around the series by not replacing Whitlock after he pitched a scoreless seventh? Stick to critiquing your doofus manager, please.
  10. "Spidering the ball" - I like it.
  11. Denny, I like it when I agree with you, and I agree with this post 110%.
  12. Well, it is true that the Red Sox hitters would have been in a different frame of mind if they were down 3-2 instead of 9-2. However, we've explained the perfectly logical reasons that Cora went with Perez.
  13. How long have you been following baseball? Long enough to remember the LOOGY?
  14. And you can't prove Brasier would have gotten Brantley out. No one can prove jackshit here.
  15. Perez has good numbers against lefties. Managers are supposed to play the percentages. It's all they can do sometimes. Maybe Bra would have gotten him out. And maybe not.
  16. It's already been said numerous times. It was a lefty on lefty matchup Cora wanted. It was either Perez or DHern.
  17. "Trust" is a strange word when applied to baseball pitchers. Houck gave up a pretty big 2 run jack in this series. I don't "trust" him either!
  18. If they're not going to use robot umps, then Laz and Angel should not be HP umps for playoff games.
  19. We beat Houston 12-3 in Game 3. Didn't need 6 in that one either.
  20. Of course the double mattered. But striking out a guy for the third out and having the ump blow it mattered plenty too. The two things are not mutually exclusive.
  21. True. But I actually think the Red Sox have been very fair to the fans in the way they've spent. They know it's a two-way street.
  22. Well, we did beat the Yankees 6-2, so we didn't actually NEED 6 runs. Another odd argument.
  23. Yep, and the stupid umpire didn't perform.
  24. Perez was brought in to get Eovaldi out of the game and because it was a lefty hitter coming up and Perez is normally good against lefties.
