  1. Seems like this topic remains so hot that it should have its own separate thread. Does a pitcher's W-L record still mean something? Did it ever? I don't think it means very much any more, and there have always been problems with it. But I also concede that sometimes W-L records can be interesting, at least.
  2. A lot of it is analytics and the third time through the order stuff. It's just a total different approach to pitching now. They want guys to throw max effort on every pitch and not try to pace themselves. I don't like it either. I like seeing a starter go 7-8 innings as much as anyone. But the game has changed and we can either just accept it or complain 24/7, right?
  3. They could award Ws and Ls to hitters, too. Or they could have the 3 stars of the game like in hockey. Or a game MVP like in football. It all means the same - not much.
  4. It matters very much for the team. It doesn't matter which pitcher gets the W or L. That's the difference.
  5. Pitcher W-L record is becoming even more meaningless as managers (including Cora last night) obviously have no compunction any more about pulling the starter in the 5th inning when the team is leading. In last night's game the win was awarded to Whitlock in one of those "which relief pitcher deserved it most" judgment call deals.
  6. Yes, I accept it all as reality. It's reality that Crochet has pitched very well and it's reality that the offense has generally stunk when he pitches and it's reality that the 6-6 record in his starts is because of the second part and not the first.
  7. Seems to me there's no way around most of the stopping and starting.
  8. Hey, you stole notin's answer. And my snappy comeback is "you don't want him to play in the road games?"
  9. Crochet is 4-4. Yes, I am very much scoffing at the idea that this means he's been mediocre.
  10. They just can't figure out where to play Roman! They've been asking MLB about using 2 DH's or a rover, but are getting nowhere so far.
  11. Round One of Yankees-Dodgers 2025 goes to the Dodgers as Max Fried gives up a 5-2 lead. 😀
  12. No, Henry must be the lynch pin since he's the one who hired Cora purely as a diversity play and insists on keeping him in the job.
  13. I'm being facetious with that word, but what I'm referring to is JH believing there was a better way to do things than what they were doing, which led to things like dispatching Dombrowski and Mookie, cutting payroll, "rebuilding while competing" etc. etc.
  14. Now there's a big cheer-up!
  15. We're definitely still living with JH's "epiphany" about how to run a baseball team.
  16. To me the last sentence is exactly what made the Sale trade questionable. I thought when they traded Sale it meant serious starting pitching acquisitions were coming.
  17. The Sale situation had some similarities and some differences. I wasn't upset when I heard about the trade but my opinion of it got worse as the rest of that offseason unfolded.
  18. It's the old 'both things can be true' deal. The sunk cost fallacy happens. Selling too soon too low happens. Story is getting close to the point of being a writeoff in any case. He can't hit heat any more, and there's no cure for that.
  19. Story is in his 4th season of underperformance/injury with us. I don't think it would be giving up too early.
  20. Well, if Cora was a diversity play, it's certainly one they're going all in on, considering this is his third CBO and he got a nice healthy extension and a fat raise.
