  1. Yeah, no thanks, I'm pretty happy right where I am.
  2. It doesn't look like such a weak class to me. https://sportsnaut.com/top-mlb-free-agents/
  3. In retrospect of course, the Sale extension which was also enabled by not keeping Mookie, was a big mistake.
  4. The rub is the 3 year opt-out in Bogey's extension, one that was likely to be exercised. If it wasn't for that I'd agree. Many fans, of course, think we could easily have afforded to keep both Betts and Bogaerts.
  5. A lot of that sounds like good old media speculation to me. Are there any actual quotes?
  6. Yes, it's sad that he turned to the juice and tainted his great career like that.
  7. A few of us think the reason they traded Vaz (besides his expiring contract) was the CERA thing, and the new guy McGuire has good CERA numbers. I'm not surprised that the deadline moves looked weird. I'm guessing the front office didn't want to throw away the slim chance of making the playoffs for the sake of fan interest, but they didn't want to invest much in it, either.
  8. It's a pretty mild reason in the overall scheme of things. Plus one could make a case that the 2022 team was trying to compete, they just got derailed by injuries and some questionable moves like the Renfroe-Bradley trade.
  9. And the 2004 team is of course a great example of one that went through a lot of turmoil and had guys who were unhappy for various reasons and things ended up pretty well...
  10. LeMahieu was generally needed at second base, with Torres playing shortstop. Cashman did a good job rectifying that situation.
  11. No, I'll hate it.
  12. As far as "shocking" deadline trades, I don't think Vazquez registers very high. I think Yankee fans were a lot more shocked by Montgomery being traded for a defensive outfielder who's on the IL.
  13. And frankly he has no reason to be unhappy, especially with a monster payday in his near future.
  14. The Yankee first base situation in 2021 was not ideal either, as I pointed out.
  15. It's a blip, IMHO.
  16. Great news, the Sox only had to pay 17.5 mill, and it only counted as 12 mill for tax purposes! But seriously, one of those prospects better work out.
  17. Bogey has been struggling at the plate for a while, by his standards. What are the signs it has anything to do with his attitude? Bogey is in a contract season, too. That tends to be a huge motivator.
  18. But again, Devers is having a great season. If he doesn't look motivated, I'm not sure what motivated looks like.
  19. With all the talk about Bogey being disrespected, he did say he was happy when the team informed him well in advance of the deadline that he wasn't going to be traded. He said it was good communication.
  20. If the 2023 Red Sox muddle around .500 again, it might put Bloom's job in some jeopardy. Henry knew this was going to take some patience. When does his patience end, is the question.
  21. What does that even mean, Bloom has "lost" Devers? Devers is having the best season of his career. Too bad all players couldn't be lost like that.
  22. I think that's pretty questionable. I think a high percentage of fans will remember it as ownership letting Mookie go because they wouldn't pay him what he wanted.
  23. Saw what coming, exactly?
  24. Maybe the biggest problem this franchise has is the terrible draft record over the last decade or so. Our drafts, domestic and international, have produced 3 elite MLB players since 2009. But the last of them was in 2013. Bogaerts-2009 Betts-2011 Devers-2013 Obviously some recent ones might join the list eventually, but it's kind of a nasty drought...
  25. LOL Hey, he has a .429 OBP!
