  1. Thank goodness the Yankee Troll Hunter isn't here right now!
  2. Any MLB team can beat any other MLB team on any given day. Pittsburgh swept 3 from Milwaukee earlier this month.
  3. OK. I was looking at the rankings for MLB, not just the AL.
  4. In the case of Betts, maybe they assumed he didn't like Boston at all, and when they got his counter offer, it confirmed it...
  5. It's only anecdotal evidence from the player. It does kind of support why the Dodgers scooped him up. I was just mainly tweaking the Yankees.
  6. By what metric is it the worst? I think 2012 was the worst. We won't count 2020.
  7. Me, you and Bloom, maybe.
  8. But they would have looked pretty crazy trading him this year.
  9. I suspect it's some of each. The catcher has a game plan going in, but may need to make adjustments as the game goes on.
  10. There is, of course, an outside chance Eovaldi's money can be resurrected by the end of the season.
  11. Yes, I'm quite sure they deemed him unavailable.
  12. What pitchers are available, is kind of the key question IMHO.
  13. Henry has been Red Sox owner for 20 years. I think you can relax now.
  14. I'm more interested in the CERA thing with McGuire.
  15. Yes, if Whitlock was available is the key there.
  16. But the point is about the Dodgers allegedly fixing a mechanical issue in his swing. You're certainly right that the sample needs to get larger to be taken seriously.
  17. Fair point. Oddly enough when you look at Gallo's K/BB with the Yankees it's not really terrible. The BA sure is, though.
  18. Agreed on all that. One other point, though. If the closer blows a game, it's not really a big deal in the overall picture. If he blows two in a row, though, people start to worry. And if he blows three in a row, the manager might look at changing things up a bit...
  19. There are so many wacky names now it's hard to get to them all. The name Packy Naughton (Cards' pitcher) just makes me grin for no reason.
  20. As long as we score more than the other guys...
  21. He is a clever devil. He's kind of the Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) of baseball executives. Things don't make sense and then they do.
  22. Meanwhile, Gallo is off to a hot start with the Dodgers and says they fixed a mechanical issue in his swing. Maybe the "can't play in New York" thing has something to do with "bad coaching in New York". That's pretty much what Sonny Gray suggested.
  23. Emotionally speaking, yes, it's a painful way to lose. But is there a real carryover effect to the next game, assuming there is one? For the players, I'd said no. One of the adages about closers is that they have to have short memories.
  24. And if they don't win it all this year, it'll be 36 years and counting since their last title, and there will be lots of moaning and groaning. (Sorry, couldn't resist...)
