JD and Eovaldi weren't bad contracts overall, no. But the last year of their contracts has certainly been bad. That's one of the reasons the team is where it is this year, and there wasn't much Bloom could do about it. So this "he had 3 years to do something about it" doesn't make much sense as a criticism.

Bloom's sense of urgency seemed OK last year when he picked up Schwarber, Iggy and Shaw to help the team get in the playoffs. But that's all ancient history, right?

"He had 3 years to work on this." Well, in 2021, Bogey, Eovaldi and JD were kind of important in us making the playoffs. So I don't think trading them last year was such a great idea. It just worked out that we had a bunch of contracts expire at the same time this year. There's really no great solution to it. It's unfortunate that Eovaldi and JD had down years this year. Bloom isn't a miracle worker. Every GM gets saddled with some bad contracts and usually all you can do is cut losses.

The Cubs did the total tank thing. Regardless, it was a 5 year plan. DD also pretty much had a 5 year plan with the Tigers, based on the results.

Pivetta is a solid #3/4 starter. Too bad our other guys couldn't take the ball the way he does.

I agree on the last part, and I think that's part of the reason firing Bloom now would be a bad move and a very bad look for Henry.

All I'm doing is registering my opinion that Bloom will be here through 2023 in spite of Shaughnessy calling for him to be fired.

Everything is set up for Bloom to really make the 2023 team his team. There's a lot of pressure on him too.

Jose Abreu might be on the radar as a DH/1B.

"Deal with it", LOL. If Henry decides to fire Bloom, that's his call, but I'm pretty sure it won't have anything to do with Shaughnessy, who's been crapping on Bloom and the "Tampa Bay North" thing from the get-go. I've predicted that Bloom will be here through 2023 at least, and I'm not wavering from it. We'll see who's right. I'll own up to it if I'm wrong.

What's so hypocritical about that is that Shaughnessy will absolutely crucify players who don't come through in the clutch. He called Adrian Gonzalez The Cooler. And then you have guys like Schilling and Papi who came through for the Red Sox like few have. And these are the guys he gets in feuds with? So they have to be clutch and perfect human beings too?

Shaughnessy is a talented writer, but he also has a lot of unsavory traits. I can't help thinking of what I read about this "Colonel" guy of olden times who had a personal vendetta against Ted Williams. Ted called guys like that Knights of the Keyboard, and I think that probably fits Shaughnessy at times. He had a vendetta against Schilling and now he has one against Papi.

He's had fights with others as well. On most boards he'd be long gone and hard to find.
