  1. To each their own, but I think going over the tax line this year was a signal that Henry is still willing to spend. Call it PR if you want. And yes, Bloom could have gotten back under by trading JD, Eovaldi etc., but that's not the message they wanted to send. They're trying to stick to the plan of competing while rebuilding. When the competing part fails but you're over the tax line, you look bad and maybe even stupid, there's no way around it.
  2. I think the basher argument would go something like this: it's his fault that the team was in last place at the deadline. They still had a chance to make the playoffs, though, because of the third Wild Card. But he put the final nails in the coffin by trading Vazquez and not getting any pitching help. The team was confused and depressed by this, so the attitude was hurt as well.
  3. Like I was saying. German outpitches Scherzer.
  4. Bloom-bashers will say that's all nice, but we're still 60-62, and last in the division.
  5. Why, because of the latest injuries?
  6. Good one. Too bad we didn't also have Mitch White.
  7. He could do all kinds of things, but isn't the best case scenario being an effective starter, maybe 90% of his old self?
  8. I'll stick with optimism, because it feels better and it doesn't matter what we think anyway.
  9. It was the Year of the Pig for our pitching staff. "Piggybacking" sounds like a cool idea at first, but was quickly demonstrated to be a useless idea. And the bullpen was a pigpen too much of the time.
  10. Converting Sale to a reliever would only be a last-ditch option if he couldn't perform as a starter any more.
  11. Bloom has a lot of work to do before next year. We all know that.
  12. Too bad for them. The only thing they can do about it is complain and/or stop watching. That's reality too.
  13. Bringing in those guys has nothing to do with building a sustainable winner. But they're the kind of fill-ins every team needs. You're too smart of a baseball fan not to know this.
  14. It's way too early to say what the team will look like in 23 or 24. But I know it's much easier to go all in on the "Bloom sucks and we're f***ed" narrative...
  15. There are no draft pick penalties if you only go over by $12 million or so as the Red Sox did this year. Competitive Balance Tax | Glossary | MLB.com WWW.MLB.COM The Official Site of Major League Baseball
  16. If JH fires Bloom now, he would look like the most impatient jackass owner in baseball in a long time. It's just not happening.
  17. Miracles are not best bets.
  18. You're way over-reaching with some of this stuff. Lux tax? We've got a pile of money coming off the books. The only big money contract Bloom has added is Story. Duran? He was a 7th round draft pick by DD. It's not all that surprising he hasn't worked out. Downs? Just another over-hyped prospect. Unhappy Bogey and Devers? Henry is the guy who has the final word on extension offers of this magnitude.
  19. Sale/Eovaldi/JDM - all leftover big contracts from DD that have produced little in 2022.
  20. So you're saying if he didn't have a contract with us we wouldn't be talking about him. Yeah, I guess that's true!
  21. Yes, I'm with you.
  22. Major cherry-picking here, but in 2019 Sale had an amazing 9 game stretch from May 3-June 15. 60.1 IP 2.09 ERA 98 K's 11 BB's
  23. Of course they are...
