  1. Sorry jad. A SeaDogs game would be great, but the trip would probably cost me two grand Canadian. And my wife has that money and several thousand more earmarked for a kitchen upgrade.
  2. I think the real dilemma Larry is raising is about retaining Bogey.
  3. moon would trade Casas, Mayer and his (moon's) dog if it brought back a cost-controlled TOTR starter and something else of value.
  4. Oh yeah. Now I will say that I did want to sign Gausman, and McHugh not Diekman.
  5. If I could jump in the Way Back Machine: -Sign Gausman, McHugh, D. Robertson. -Cancel Renfroe trade, Paxton signing, Hill signing, Diekman signing. That would increase the payroll a bit is all.
  6. I think the Story signing has gotten somewhat of a bum rap because of his Colorado numbers. His road OPS was close to Bogey's. And Fenway is well suited to his swing.
  7. NCAA football brings out my grumpy side. It's semi-professional football sponsored by universities, with the richest universities fielding the best teams. Pretending that it's an amateur competition among student athletes is a joke.
  8. If Rangers catcher Jonah Heim married a woman named Anna, she'd be Anna Heim. Of course she'd probably stick with the maiden name.
  9. Gotta love Wong's line today. 3 walks! He's getting the Barry Bonds treatment. They're terrified of him.
  10. You're 100% results-oriented. That's fine, a lot of people are. But you don't want to hear about how are farm is improving, because we're in last place.
  11. No, Devers has the highest OPS+ of his career. That's what you should be using.
  12. Koji was very good in 2014. In 2015-17 he only pitched a total of 130 innings. Still a quality pitcher, but age starting to really show.
  13. Backs are tricky things.
  14. True. But all we remember is his conspicuous failures.
  15. On the other hand, how many long-term (5 years or more) reliable late inning relievers have the Red Sox had in their history? I can only think of two, really - Radatz and Papelbon. Koji was awesome in 2013, but returned to earth after that. Kimbrel gave us 3 very good years, but he wasn't very good for us in his postseason efforts.
  16. Could be. Our expectations get too high sometimes. But a 2.72 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 5.13 K/BB in your first 148 ML innings is still pretty good.
  17. I think this place is an OK representation of views. But we're mostly old guys.
  18. Bullpens are basically a new boat every year. Bloom has to do better, that is for sure.
  19. True. One thing people forget about poor Calvin Schiraldi in Game 6 was that he threw 55 freakin' pitches in that game...
  20. Danny Boy. Yes, and he's a great story. A little sorry we didn't nab him ourselves.
  21. I have never had a problem with spending money on one really good reliever, like Foulke or Papelbon or Koji or Kimbrel.
  22. So you actually have to hear it with your ears, reading it is no good?
  23. Spending a pile on name relievers doesn't guarantee a thing. The Rockies tried it a few years ago and it bombed spectacularly. The Yankees tried it with Chapman and Britton. How are Chapman and Britton doing this year, anybody notice?
  24. The plan was let's see who claims the roles by pitching the best, I would say...
