  1. Which managers are special though, 700? Based on your previous comments, you pretty much think all managers are bozos.
  2. Lots of made up stuff here. moon is the only one who said Cora was the greatest manager in Sox history. And Bloom has been getting plenty of blame for this year, even from guys like moon, who has never let up about the Bradley trade. You're way too selective with what you read and remember.
  3. Some say that in baseball the defense is the offense, because they're the ones who initiate the play, who know what the pitch will be etc. (Frankly I'm just arguing for the sake of it.)
  4. If Cora was being brutally honest he would have said "Look, we're not making the playoffs, and we're trying to find out if this guy is worth keeping for next year."
  5. It was the 6th inning. I guess you're saying we should have used a Relief Ace.
  6. He's pitched 21 major league innings. In the 4 outings before last night he didn't give up any runs.
  7. I think Cora's explanation for using Ort there makes sense. Now if we were 1 game out of a playoff spot and not 10, the same answer wouldn't make sense.
  8. You have a point there. But football offenses have a lot of rules about alignments. The differentiation between offense and defense is kind of an arbitrary one.
  9. Of course it doesn't always work. But when you're 3 games out with 2 months left and you expect to have Chris Sale and some other guys ready to come back, do you write it off? In retrospect the answer would be yes. At the time it isn't that easy. I do understand your point. We just have a philosophical disagreement, I think. In a sense you can blame the expanded playoffs for giving so many teams a potential chance to get in.
  10. How about "these guys with less major league experience", then?
  11. I think tanking and fire sales are bad for the game.
  12. How many kinds of defensive penalties have you seen called in NFL games?
  13. Yep. And in hockey, a pass across two lines used to be illegal. Then they legalized it because they thought it would increase goal-scoring.
  14. There are plenty of rules that limit what NFL players can do. I believe "illegal formation" is a thing...
  15. I think a lot of safe/out calls in baseball are very difficult. I'm sure you're right that tennis isn't that easy either, though.
  16. Tennis is a relatively simple game to officiate.
  17. Sounds like you're ready to call him a bust.
  18. So maybe they shouldn't have spent so much this year. Maybe they should have gone full-on tank and fire sale. Trying to please the fans had a lot to do with this combination of high payroll and suckitude. I was one of the fans who wanted them not to tank or fire sale, so I'm willing to live with the results.
  19. Is every official bad, or is officiating really hard?
  20. Do you really find it unbelievable? If so, I find that amusing.
  21. Yes, that's what I thought.
  22. Not Red Sox fans, I would hope.
  23. Red Sox fans will always find lots to complain about. This board is just a small sampling of evidence.
  24. If you're a stolen base fan, you're kind of rooting for the wrong team. For many years the Red Sox were notorious for their lack of speed and their emphasis on slugging. I'd say it was actually analytics that changed the team's approach.
