  1. It could also be that the Boston media don't like Bloom and they're looking for any chance to put him in a negative light.
  2. Should probably hang on to Dalbec for one more chance.
  3. Diekman might go down as one of my all-time least liked Red Sox players. Didn't like it from the start. Couldn't believe Chaim liked his numbers and thought he was a better pick than McHugh.
  4. As for the departure of Vaz, how about McGuire so far? With the Red Sox he's hitting 394/429/521 for a 950 OPS in 79 PA's. Obviously unsustainable small sample magic, but his career OPS of 682 is respectable for a catcher. Not really sure why the White Sox would trade him for the likes of Diekman.
  5. And if the taxes were like normal taxes, and didn't have all the surcharges for repeat payers, he probably wouldn't mind the taxes that much.
  6. It can be used against players, too. Varitek was considered a clubhouse leader, and when the Sox collapsed in 2011 and had all the finger-pointing, he was getting blamed for not providing leadership.
  7. Henry has been very consistent. He's always spent on the team, and he's always shown he won't let the spending get out of control.
  8. You don't hear too many losing teams say "But damn, our chemistry was great!"
  9. I get that, but the fact is the team was 8-19 in July, so Vaz's leadership didn't seem to be paying off in wins at that point...
  10. Sometimes, it all comes down to whether one is an optimist or a pessimist. As an optimist I hope they're all still here.
  11. Sure he does. But he probably would have waived it if it was the right team.
  12. Did you feel 100% that way at the time?
  13. Like I said, Sale plus Story and Kike and even Paxton, heh heh... Wacha was on the shelf at the time, too.
  14. If they traded JD and Nate, they might as well have gone full fire sale.
  15. Hosmer, Pham and McGuire were all upgrades, arguably.
  16. Go look at the standings on August 1 and the teams that were ahead of us. The Yankees, Astros and Jays were the only teams that were more than 6 games over .500 and had a run differential of better than +28. The Rays were 54-48 with a differential of +18.
  17. Easy to say when they're not even your team.
  18. The facts are these: -They were 3 games out a Wild Card spot at the deadline. -Players on the IL at the time but expected back included Sale, Story, Kike and possibly Paxton. Obviously many of us felt the team was "going nowhere". But management of the Boston Red Sox doesn't have the luxury of thinking that way. They've got fans paying a lot of money to answer to.
  19. Really hard to say. We all know Bobby can hit bad pitches out of the park.
  20. Hard disagree. We still had a shot. Frankly, the 2021 team's chances at a ring didn't look much better at the deadline than the 2022 team's. The 2021 team was incredibly lucky to get into the playoffs. And then look what happened.
  21. I'll go with the standard answer: "Not if we're the highest offer."
  22. Correct. You even know your BDC history now.
  23. Yeah, you mentioned that. I'd like to keep him, but who knows what he'll want.
  24. I think Cora and the Sox are doing a decent job being fair to everyone while also getting a look at some guys. It's one of the reasons I still think Cora is a good manager.
  25. Strahm is really pitching well. Too bad he's a free agent.
