  1. Another fine article, Maddie. I like that you're not afraid to write stuff we may not want to hear. Personally I'm going to judge Breslow mainly on results. In a way this makes me glad that we have a very 'human' manager with Cora.
  2. Giants are 0-2 with Devers. 😛
  3. Which fans though? There are fans who complain about every player at one time or another, especially here in the blogosphere.
  4. Possibly. Or Raffy might be giving the Red Sox the middle finger, too, right? Remember Nomar grinning and saying his ankle was great right after the Red Sox traded him.
  5. So taking the sarcasm route, nice. We're pretty tolerant here but there are limits, too. It's up to you if you want to stick around or not.
  6. It didn't help that Raffy was so convinced all along that he actually was a good defensive third baseman. He WAS a good defensive third baseman compared to the general population, but not compared to other MLBers at the position.
  7. Max, sometimes the pitchers win the games for you, sometimes the hitters do, sometimes it's a combo. Over the long haul you need all those kinds of wins. And it's ever been thus in this wacky and wonderful game.
  8. Manny Ramirez has also taken Devers's side. Could have a beauty roundtable discussion with those three.
  9. Yes, there were and still are some posters who agreed with not paying Mookie what he wanted and/or thought what he really wanted was out of town. Zack Scott, who was in the Sox FO back then, has said very firmly that Mookie would absolutely have stayed if they paid what he thought was market value, that there were never any indications that Mookie 'wanted out'.
  10. You have it a nutshell, Randy. I do think 2 came before 1 in this case.
  11. Agreed. Now that the dust has settled and our offense has been dealt a blow, Brez and company have more work to do, hopefully they're up to it.
  12. Devers may have had reasons to feel jerked around, but he ultimately prioritized his own feelings over the good of his team.
  13. Please refrain from using 'Fatboy' and other personal insults like these.
  14. That could have gone badly too.
  15. It's a crazy game. They'll probably go off tonight.
  16. We'll never know for sure since they traded him. Zach Scott who was in the Red Sox front office at the time says that Betts would have stayed, the Sox just never got to the number he wanted. The Sox offers topped out at a little under 300 mill.
  17. There's also base running of course. Ortiz and most DHs are big slow guys.
  18. Max, anybody could have replaced the Casas who started the season in a horrible slump, but that's not really the point. First of all the hope was that Casas would get it going again, the way players often do. Second, most teams have good hitters at first base so if you don't, that's a disadvantage. The good news is that Breslow seems to have a very nice pick out of the trash heap with Toro.
  19. I have to disagree with the first sentence. I think WAR treats DH's fairly because they only play half the game. By the same token the highest WAR a closer has ever had is probably around 4. 6 WAR is huge for a DH. Also, 6 WAR on the free agent market costs about 50 million on average, so obviously I don't disagree about prime Papi being worth a ton of coin.
  20. I'd call it disrespectful to say the least to brush off a team legend who's trying to give some advice. Unfortunately that seems to be Raffy's way. And I'm really surprised by it. I was a big fan of Raffy's before this.
  21. My blame pie is 80-85% Devers, and I don't really care who gets the rest of it.
  22. I think Ortiz's comments are pretty telling. He says he tried to reach out to Devers many times and Devers was just not receptive. I see no reason why David would make something like that up.
