Hard to figure. But they think they have things covered. We shall see. In any case it's puzzling a guy who totaled 5.1 fWAR over the last 2 seasons could only get $3 mill.

I'm well aware of that possibility. But there's no need to be obnoxious about it.

I'm pretty happy with these projections, yes, because: 1) They suggest that the gap between us and the other AL East powers isn't insurmountable. 2) Projections always leave a lot of room for error.

None of the individual projections are totally unrealistic. A scenario in which everyone hits those optimistic numbers isn't very realistic.

OK, well, as far as 2019 is concerned, Sale was likely pitching hurt. In 2021 he registered a 3.16 ERA in a small sample of 42.2 innings. His career ERA is 3.03. I don't think anyone would argue Chris Sale is a 4.40 ERA guy when he's healthy. Factor in age, and a reasonable projection of his ERA this year would be 3.40 or something like that.

ERA is not a reliable stat in itself.
