  1. Fair enough. The question is does this mean the offers to Lester when he became a free agent were bogus?
  2. Hopefully we're not cheating. (Somebody had to say it.)
  3. Duran has in effect played like a 10 WAR player.
  4. And Duran has only played in 19 of our 35 games.
  5. Right, that and the brawl with the Yankees were the two most exciting moments for the 1976 Sox.
  6. No, it's just that mvp and notin were talking about Ref being no more than a weak-side platoon guy, so I had to point that out. A lot of my posts here are strictly for fun.
  7. Casas OTOH is not hot, but he's playing every day. I would suggest that's because they want him to get the reps. It's just not as simple as play the hot guy and rest the cold guy.
  8. Like I said, it might be more about the mental break. You're pretty old school, man.
  9. Refsnyder's 2-out, 2-run double last night was off a RH pitcher.
  10. The other thing about the day off for Masa is that it meant playing time for Refsnyder or Tapia, and they both contributed to last night's win.
  11. But the thing is, scheduled days off have to be planned in advance. Otherwise they wouldn't be scheduled days off. I think in the modern game there's a lot of pre-game preparation, studying film and data on the opposing starting pitcher etc. I think that part of the day off is getting a mental break from that stuff, not just a physical break. Let's see if Yoshida stays hot after the day off.
  12. There was no rule. I think it's just another of our urban myths. Can anyone find what Henry actually said about that?
  13. Cora reminds me a lot of Francona, and I think he learned a lot from Tito.
  14. The way the team is playing right now, I can't find much to hate about Bloom's moves - funny how that works LOL
  15. Seriously? Masa had played for 15 straight games before Cora rested him. And he only had a single in the game before being rested. Do you really think no players should have any scheduled rest days, that Cora needs to base it all on whether they're hot or not? Obviously, I'm in agreement with Cora. I think he handles this stuff great.
  16. 3.86 ERA in last 3 starts vs. BAL, TOR & PHI, 3 strong offenses, so there are signs of hope.
  17. If I was your editor, I'd amend that to "Hold him in high dudgeon!" and it would be perfect, IMO.
  18. On MLB Gameday this year, an awful lot of pitches are being identified as "sweepers"!
  19. Excellent for joints, ligaments and tendons!
  20. The reason I think losses are a bad stat for relievers is that they're often brought into tie games in the late innings. If they give up 1 run that could easily be a loss for them. Or if they get lucky, their team scores some runs and they get the win instead. There's a pile of luck involved. Believe me, I'm not arguing that blown saves are a great stat either. Now when the closer gets both a loss and a blown save, that's ugly.
  21. How many times did Elway do that?
  22. I think Brady's Super Bowl winning teams did trail in a lot of those games...
