    Schwarber got $79 mill for 4 years, so $19.75. Yoshida got $90 mill for 5, but there was also a posting fee of $15 mill or something like that.

    If they wanted a guy to get on base and hit bombs, Schwarber would have filled that bill nicely for a lower total commitment than Yoshida. But it's more exciting to be unconventional!

    He's just been super unlucky since he joined us, I know. Pitchers have given up 6.5 runs a game in his 33 starts. Maybe he's like E-Rod in reverse. For some reason we usually scored a lot of runs for E-Rod.

    I'm hoping it's Wong but you're likely right. At some point I assume Cora will transition from a platoon to pitcher-catcher pairings. Crazy how many lefty starters we've faced.

    They had a chance to retain him before he got to that market. But they signed Story and lowballed Bogey instead. Pure idiocy, frankly. Not sure what qualifies as good not great, but here are his OPS+ since 2018: 135 139 128 129 131 179

    Chaim may have fixed the bullpen. But man, he sure didn't do much about the fielding.

    The thing the scouts questioned was whether his extra-base power would carry over to MLB. It's his .279 SLG that's worrying.

    I agree, the strategy makes sense, but execution is the issue.

    I think it's quite possible Bloom doesn't really know what he's doing. He's made some good moves, absolutely. But way too many head-scratchers and outright blunders. The more I think about it the more pissed I am about swapping Bogey for Story. That's a massive blunder right there.

    Does this team really have the luxury of Masa taking a while to (hopefully) figure it out? This is the guy we thought could replace Bogey's offense. Ah well, this year doesn't matter much anyway. Henry and Bloom have seen to that.

    Sorry man, I'm just glum about this team. We needed to have a big offseason. We needed to have a good start against weaker opposition. Neither one happened. The team has shown some good fight in coming back from deficits, but the problem is there are too many deficits. B-R estimates our chances of making the playoffs at about 1 in 40. That's pretty brutal at this stage of the season.

    The guy calling the shots for the Jays these days is Mark Shapiro, who was with the Guardians from 1991 to 2015. And he's been given a surprisingly big budget. I wasn't expecting to get outspent by the Jays.

    Well, you can't overlook that the majority of scouts panned the signing. So when you do something like that, you really have to be right. I'm a little surprised JH even agreed to it, after his experiences with Dice-K and Castillo.

    True, but it was a risky signing for a team on a tight budget.

    If Yoshida is a bust it could be the final nail in the coffin for Chaim.
