  1. Can't complain about the Devers extension, that's for sure, IMHO. But you're overplaying the $650 million, for the reasons already mentioned.
  2. Ifs and buts = candy and nuts. I do get your point, but the other side of the argument has a point too.
  3. The neglect is negligent.
  4. And Greinke got 6 years and $206.5 million at around the same time Price got his deal. Greinke's AAV was higher.
  5. That was not a market setter.
  6. But we're middle of the pack in actual 2023 payroll, which is the first time this has happened under Henry. And they let go of Bogaerts and Eovaldi's salaries, of course. It's misleading if you don't factor in the subtractions. All depends on how you look at it, right?
  7. We shouldn't be surprised if they express interest. But going toe-to-toe with the Dodgers and Mets and whoever for Ohtani? I don't think so.
  8. It's not like we don't hand out a few gifts here and there. That stuff tends to even out.
  9. For Ohtani the bidding might START at $500 million...
  10. Right, as moon said about Martin Perez, Bloom just missed on the TIMING.
  11. That wasn't a market setter, just a mildly surprising overpay.
  12. The Red Sox have never really set the market for anything, I don't think. When they did really start to spend, it was more like responding to the Yankees.
  13. Might as well dream big.
  14. What Chaim really should say: "Let's face it folks, the starters I sign are likely to suck, so just be glad I only sign them for a year." Now that would be some honesty.
  15. Meanwhile even the Jays are outspending the Sox, and signing starters to deals longer than a year...
  16. Yes, "hopefully" and "maybe" is all we've got in this area... "even the most ardent Noah Song supporter" was very good, though.
  17. Right now Bloom's failure to upgrade the rotation really looks like a criminal offense. He actually thought Kluber was going to be the answer. More of Corey tonight.
  18. Stanton is such an idiot. This is at least the second significant injury he's gotten from doing the same thing, posing and then having to hustle.
  19. The starting rotation is killing us, plain and simple.
  20. Houck 4.29 Pivetta 4.58 Whitlock 6.19 Sale 8.22 Kluber 8.50 Bello 9.82
  21. You tell me, what's the right sample size?
  22. It's pretty early to give up on Casas.
  23. That's why I'm keeping fingers crossed that Wong might be a good one (though probably not with the stick).
  24. But last year's Orioles were 21-30 at the end of May and went 62-49 the rest of the way. They started getting better around the same time Rutschman joined the team.
  25. I looked it up, and since MLB went to 6 divisions in 1994, no team has ever finished last and above .500. The 2005 Nationals did finish last with a .500 record.
