    Mookie is a very smart guy. He did share the story of how his mom basically talked him out of accepting the Sox first extension offer, which was for 8 years and 200 mill, I believe.

    Might as well start the banter now, with this obviously slanted take: If the season ended today, the Philles would be in the playoffs for the second year in a row and the Red Sox would be out of the playoffs for the second year in a row. So it's a clear win for DD. The difference in payrolls is good only for JH's wallet. Although that is mitigated by the lack of playoff games and the pissed-off fans. There is only one segment of Sox fans who are happy, the future-huggers who believe Bloom when he says it's gonna be awesome.

    Porcello's contract was good if you believe in fWAR. Lackey, Porcello and Eovaldi came close to recouping their contracts, but many will argue they did it all in one season.

    Bogey's AAV is 25.5. Subtract Kluber, Kike, Brasier and some other bits and you're there.

    Signing Bogey for 280 mill would have been a big mistake. But it's worth noting his current fWAR of 2.8 would be leading the Red Sox.
