    Bloom struck out twice with the rotation this year. He got Kluber before the season and Nobody at the deadline. Nobody actually had a better WAR than Kluber...

    It's a debatable point. Even with the injuries Wacha has a 2.1 fWAR this year, worth 16.7 million, and last year he had a 1.5 fWAR, worth 12.3 million. He's actually been a huge bargain 2 years in a row.

    Fans are supposed to be optimists, but when reality settles in they can become bitter. I wanted them to extend Devers. The problem is he's having a horrible season with the glove and as a result he's not living up to his contract. Meanwhile we see Betts having a monster season and realize he's making about the same money as Devers. Yoshida was a good story for a while, until you took a look at FanGraphs and realized the guy is a huge negative in the field and on the bases. Plus he stopped drawing walks. And now apparently he's pooped. Reality bites sometimes, it's as simple as that.

    Bello and Crawford are still in the "building up innings" phases of their careers. Sale and Paxton have been ravaged by injuries the last few years. Bloom should have seen this coming but didn't, or he did and he crossed his fingers. That's it in a nutshell.

    I wish that was true. They've lost 5 in a row, giving up 46 runs in the process, and the staff is in shreds. Things are not going to get better when we play the AL East teams for weeks. This promises to be one of the ugliest stretches you'll ever see.

    The fact is the Red Sox will have an absolutely atrocious rotation for 2024, unless the front office breaks down and does something about it.

    Yeah, the lists look good, the standings do not.

    The jury is out on Bloom as a team builder, big time. Yes, we have some nice prospects. Hardly any of them can pitch, though. That's why Keith Law is less enamored of our system than most. Maybe he's right.

    I won't be surprised to hear Paxton has been shut down for the season. Hell, they might shut down Bello. What's the point of putting him at risk now?

    Nobody knows. There was a rumor that the ownership was disappointed by the deadline inactivity. Maybe Bloom had some possible deals in the works but ended up backing away from them.

    I get that. 4 rings earns a lot of loyalty, and there's no guarantee the next owner will be better.

    Yes, and they've picked up 4 games on us over the last 5. That's how bad we are now. Our pitching staff is in shreds, moon.

    Yes, Henry deserves to be lambasted too, without a doubt.

    They could have added two, that's the thing. They could have signed Senga instead of Yoshida. They could have signed Eflin instead of Kluber. Bloom could have done a lot of things differently the last two years. But now things are devolving into such a mess that we can say it didn't matter...it's almost like that's the way they wanted it.

    Even though Wacha has gotten injured again and only pitched 107.1 innings, he'd still be leading Sox pitchers in fWAR... So many ridiculous facts that can be pointed out about the 2023 rotation...

    Pretty simple, I think, the primary fault is with Bloom for not adding one or two good starters to the 2023 rotation. Secondary fault to Henry for the tight budget, I guess.

    But as fans we're programmed to be optimistic.

    I think the reeling is coming from above Cora's head. He's being made to look ridiculous by things like the Bear Claw game. Not really his fault our pitching has collapsed.

    Yankees are having a disastrous season, but I'd say they're an excellent bet to finish ahead of the Sox. Maybe by a comfortable margin.
