  1. OK, you've been assigned to this particular case.
  2. Sure, they had 90M after subtracting Bogaerts, Eovaldi and Wacha. It's not like it was the same team plus $90 mill to play with.
  3. There's just no valid explanation for not making a better effort to retain a popular Hall of Famer in his prime. Henry blew it and he has to own it.
  4. And very predictable.
  5. Agreed.
  6. They've sacked 3 guys in a row after 4 years. Bloom was the guy I thought they might be patient with. I think we can all forget about patience now.
  7. So who was making the errors and blunders - guys who just aren't good fielders, inexperienced guys? I think you have to go through that too.
  8. I'm not sure Sox CBO is anyone's dream job right now. A nice 5 year contract, sure, but the rest isn't so pleasant.
  9. Which Mookie, who unlike us should know, has now flat-out denied, to add to the intrigue.
  10. And I'm not letting Bloom off the hook. But there's a logical disconnect here. Were they rebuilding and controlling payroll or what the f*** were they doing? I'm not sure Henry knows what he wants anymore.
  11. He'd get his 4 years like everyone else...
  12. But if they really wanted seriously to contend this year, why did they also want to stay under the CBT? I think they're full of s***, that's all...
  13. Somebody should ask John Henry point blank why, if the Sox were so committed to winning this year, they dropped all the f**king way to the middle of the pack in payroll for the first time in his ownership?
  14. "Win titles or pack your bags" isn't quite right, though, since they canned 3 guys who won 4 titles.
  15. And personally, I'm not faulting Cora or the team for their effort. I think they've been doing their best. The woefully thin starting rotation has just been impossible to overcome.
  16. We're not far from making it 3 last-place finishes. Bloom is still the "CBO of record" for this season.
  17. Henry and Werner have been excellent owners. They've also been miserable pricks. You can be both. Bloom knew what he was getting into, though, or he should have.
  18. That's not a fact, though. 2018 fWAR 4.4 2022 fWAR 6.0
  19. Some managers get accused of hooking their pitchers too early. Henry is Captain Hook when it comes to CBO's. 3 guys in a row hooked after the 4th inning.
  20. Some of it is the Contract Year Stigma.
  21. A pitcher named Tommy Belladonna might have the nickname "TBD".
  22. Another 2 game swing game, mvp!
  23. Shaughnessy doesn't let every single fact get in the way, of course.
  24. Sez Shaughnessy: Bloom’s tenure saw considerable dropoff in fan interest as the Sox lurched toward irrelevance in a competitive sports market. Boston’s beleaguered baseball boss seemed to care more about his coveted draft picks than the success of the major league team. He gave Cora a misfit roster sprinkled with spare parts (Franchy Cordero?) forced to play out of position. He left Cora without enough healthy arms on multiple occasions.
  25. So if Shaughnessy's article is indicative, Boston media will be putting a lot of the heat on ownership for their part in this, i.e. trading Betts and cutting the budget.
