Ha! I just get obsessive about certain things. Yoshida is an above average MLB hitter. But I think it was a very bad signing in light of the cost, our tight budget, need for starting pitching, the fact Bloom signed 2 DH's, our bad defense and so on.

Of course we don't really know what input Cora has into decisions like rest days. My take on Cora's comments this year was that he was somewhat frustrated with the state of the roster he was handed by Bloom, and he thought maybe too much attention was being paid to the future and not enough to the present. He would have gotten along fine with a lot of us on that!

I think Sale is worth a gamble for 1 more year at an AAV of 25.6 mill. Of course, I'm assuming that Henry is going to loosen the purse strings a little, too.

IMO Wacha was good for the price, especially in an age where such a high % of pitchers have durability issues.

That's a pretty harsh take on a #5 starter. Pivetta's numbers over the last 3 years are fine for that profile.

But Yoshida only had 2 HR more than Verdugo. AL left fielders must have been really bad this year, I guess.

If you trade Duran, you only have one year left of Dugo, so you have neither of them in 2025.

Now I'm down to irrelevant quibbles, but I'm very confident the offer was not $295 million or $299 million. That would be the epitome of bad pricing strategy, sending a message like "you're almost worth $300 mill, but not quite."

Of course. But IMO it was mainly inferred from 2 things: 1) the fact of the years going by with no extension; 2) the fact that Mookie was quiet on the matter. People can believe a lot of things with no evidence at all. And we can see that even now, with Mookie insisting he wanted to stay and people not believing him.

To me, even if what he turned down was $300 mill, that's not evidence he wanted to leave, it's evidence he wanted more money. And obviously he did get more, and no one was really surprised he got $365 mill.

One other possibility is the offer was something like this: 9 years for $270 mill guaranteed Plus vesting option or team option for additional year at $30 mill

Why, what exactly is the evidence he wanted to leave? I see none. Hunches are fine, but that's all they are. I don't think there's any evidence Betts wanted to leave or that he didn't want to leave. Juan Soto is a different story. He reportedly turned down a $440 million offer, and that report was never disputed. So yeah, he wanted to leave.

But who says easy information is the only good information? I certainly remember a number of games where folks described the Red Sox defense as a clown show. Most of them were losses, I believe.
