  1. We can't expect any owners to dig into their own pockets to cover their team's losses. Although Steve Cohen is apparently doing it. I think it's reasonable to expect the third most valuable team, the Red Sox, to have the third highest payroll. They did follow that credo for many years. 2019 seems like the turning point.
  2. As far as I know, yes.
  3. It seems like an assumption more than anything based on actual numbers.
  4. Who knows? Glasnow is only for one year, they've had a lot of losses in their rotation, and they are obviously not freaked out about paying luxury tax...
  5. Maybe Werner spoke out of turn and Henry reprimanded him for it. Remember the reset button thing a few years ago?
  6. Too late, sounds like it's nearly a done deal.
  7. Really? What are the gross annual revenues of the A's, Rays, Pirates etc.?
  8. I agree. But maybe Henry thinks Red Sox fans just aren't very bright. His market value is still thriving after 6 sub-.500 teams in 12 years and the jettisoning of Mookie Betts, so maybe anything seems possible to him now.
  9. Gray, ERod and Lugo were all on our list of secondary acquisitions. That list is shrinking, and we still haven't made the primary acquisition.
  10. Outbidding Cohen, Steinbrenner and the rest seems like a pipe dream to me. Maybe if they had done something else by now to demonstrate they weren't lying about being aggressive, I'd feel differently.
  11. If you're Moto and his team and you take a close look at the Red Sox and what's been going on with them, you're probably going to question how committed to winning they really are.
  12. Yes, they're meeting with Moto to keep up appearances. Sham!
  13. The Criswell signing is meant to show Yamamoto and his team how serious the Red Sox are about 2024.
  14. Burnes seems like the best trade target, but it's only one guaranteed year. He has great numbers but maybe worth nothing they regressed some from 2021 to 2022 and from 2022 to 2023.
  15. They have to do something significant about the rotation this offseason, or it's going to be another debacle for this front office. It'll be shocking. But what if they've miscalculated and they end up not signing Moto, Snell or Montgomery? Even if they do make a big trade, people are going to be scratching their heads.
  16. We don't outbid anyone for starting pitchers. Pitchers are too risky.
  17. Don't worry, be happy.
  18. Lugo to the Royals. Scratch another.
  19. Teams are spending more because the revenue is there.
  20. Yes, that one was good.
  21. We can always dream. Like we dreamed Bloom was a pitching savant who was going to make more out of less.
  22. That's the whole point. We're the #3 franchise in market value and gross revenue, but we're now outside the top ten in payroll.
  23. Henry and Werner are both going to be wearing their 4 rings.
  24. Fenway Sports Group does have a lot going on. Is it hurting the Red Sox? I don't know, but I'm not sure it can be ruled out any more, when you look at what's been going on with the Sox payroll.
