  1. Put it this way, after Yamamoto and Snell, Monty is clearly one of the best starters available.
  2. As we've been pointing out, Monty has been good the last 3 seasons.
  3. Oh no, now we have the term "frontline" starter to deal with. Didn't Monty look pretty frontline in the playoffs?
  4. 2023 fWAR for free agent starters: 4 Gray 5.3 13 Montgomery 4.3 14 Snell 4.1 15 Nola 3.9 30 ERod 3.0 34 Lugo 2.8 34 Hendricks 2.8 37 Stroman 2.7 40 Wacha 2.6
  5. Nola's record over the last 3 seasons is 32-31. That crazy Dombrowski!
  6. Yes. Don't you old schoolers like innings and ERA too? Jon Lester was on 3 teams in 2 years, 2014 and 2015. Did that mean he sucked? Journeyman Jon?
  7. The projection is $225 mill, but there's a 15% posting fee on top, so if it's $225 mill the total actual cost is about $260.
  8. Per FanGraphs, every 1 WAR from a free agent costs you $8-9 million in today's dollars.
  9. As you pointed out, Snell has 2 CYA's.
  10. There should be probably be concerns that Yamamoto will fulfill his $300 million cost too...
  11. Even before the playoffs, he just had the best season of his career and his last 3 seasons all show a solid trend, so I think he'd still be looking at a big payday. It's not like Sonny Gray has been Mr. October, but he's going to get paid too. A lot of money chasing a little group of elite and semi-elite starters.
  12. 1. Yamamoto 2. Snell 3. Montgomery 4. Gray 5. ERod Those are the top 5 names after Nola's elimination.
  13. He's the closest thing to the next Jon Lester.
  14. You don't like his 3.20 ERA in 188.2 innings last year? Eovaldi has a career record of 79-73 in 12 seasons/part-seasons. What do you think of him as a pitcher?
  15. Montgomery has a 10.2 fWAR over the last 3 seasons. He's been pitching like a solid #2.
  16. Going rate these days. No bargains out there.
  17. Skepticism abounds. Not surprising, really, after the fiasco of the last two seasons. Henry and Bloom succeeded in lowering everyone's expectations.
  18. And if he had the TJ at the end of 2019 he would have only missed the 60 game 2020 season. Oh well.
  19. Sale wasn't actually injured at the end of 2018. When last seen he was striking out Machado to end the Series. From there it's up to the docs to examine him. That's my take, anyway.
  20. No. It's pure speculation. I just think DD is at least as smart as us, and he more than likely had good reasons for agreeing to the opt out. He's never been known to be shy about giving out large long contracts.
  21. And sometimes interpreting things 100% literally doesn't work very well.
  22. It means if they don't make at least one big signing they're going to look like lying sacks of s***.
  23. We can blame all we want, but if Boras said there's no extension without an opt out, there wasn't much DD could do.
  24. Injuries are always hugely possible with any of these contracts. Now we're talking about Trout being damaged goods.
  25. I think we should be one of the Fullest Throttlest, like Top 4.
