    I don't see how the Sox have a single advantage in the Moto sweepstakes. If the guy wants to be on a winner, the Sox are coming off back to back 78 win seasons, fired their CBO, and have done nothing yet this offseason. Moto's management team will be well aware of the Sox apparent front office dysfunction. "They just have to outbid everybody else." How do you outbid a guy who's worth 20 billion and wants his team desperately to win? We're getting Shammed, folks. Let's hope Montgomery is still available after this dog and pony show is over.

    Call me crazy, but I think even if the Mets hadn't done that it would be hard to outbid Cohen. What happens if the bidding for Moto gets so high that it's a guaranteed insanely risky overpay?

    I can't see Seattle trading Castillo. That was a big trade they made for him, he signed a reasonable contract, and he had another solid season. He's been consistent and durable. If that isn't a guy you keep, you're probably in tank mode.

    You see situations where the player is offered the same money by two teams and picks his favorite. Ohtani was reportedly offered the same deal by the Giants as he was by the Dodgers. And of course last year Eflin picked the Rays over the Sox with identical offers.

    You know it's not that simple. There's a point where not spending will hurt the team's value.

    The teams are not equal in value. It's not a level playing field. That's just reality.

    If Cohen sells the team with a pile of debt on the books it has to reduce the price. At least that's how it works with normal businesses. I don't see how the Mets can rack up heavy losses without it affecting Cohen.

    It's the fans who pay the bills and make John Henry's franchise worth $4.5 billion. I think they do have the right to complain when they're seeing inferior teams put on the field, while ticket prices go up and Henry keeps getting richer. Henry deserves the plaudits for the 4 rings, but the fans owe him nothing at this point.
