  1. Nice recap.
  2. We know that for 2023 they tried to sign Eovaldi or Eflin, but somehow after missing on those two there was only $10 million left to invest in the rotation. 'Twill always be a mystery what the hell Bloom was thinking.
  3. There's really no way to validate the Red Sox not making a fully committed effort to retain Betts. Of course if Mookie had fallen off significantly by now, the uproar would not be as great. The fact that he nearly won the MVP again in his 4th season with the Dodgers, while the Sox won 78 games for the second year in a row, keeps the uproar level real loud.
  4. Hard to say. Some might see that as being even worse, because it would be an admission that financial concerns had nothing to do with ditching Betts.
  5. That replacement idea is like the Yankees "replacing" Cole with 3 Maeda/Wacha $12 million AAV types.
  6. If so, that was a really terrible thought.
  7. You can't really replace a Mookie Betts. There's only one rational way to explain the decision: they thought he was going to significantly decline within 5 years or so.
  8. Not sure how's that different from what I said.
  9. It appears that decision was all part of a master plan for the next 5-10 years.
  10. I'll take Henry over just about all of them, but he really needs to get it back together. He's been in a nasty slump that started somewhere in the year 2019.
  11. One wild hunch is as good as the next. I just sit back and wait for something to happen. For long stretches not a damn thing does.
  12. As much as we bitch, it's been a great run since we had the change of ownership.
  13. I'd call it an emergency trade (after Buchholz went down) by a team that was "all in" that year. And there weren't many options at the time.
  14. No doubt, but I think it's worth it for the kind of run they've had.
  15. Deadlines and dead horses...
  16. They stunk, just like they stunk after moving Kike this year.
  17. I thought you've said you were fine with him as long as he was the #9 hitter.
  18. No doubt shortstop is one position where an elite fielder can be about as valuable as an elite hitter.
  19. Simmons's fWAR is only 25...wow, quite the variance, especially for a position player.
  20. You keep your best bats in the game if you're behind or tied. The designated fielders only come in when you have that lead to protect.
  21. But you also continue to say you were OK with his performance in 2022.
