  1. *Hopefully* just for one year.
  2. Are we sure about this? Gray and E-Rod didn't wait around and signed for very reasonable and predictable numbers.
  3. Yeah, that $45 million recapture, plus tax savings, surely watered down the talent take. And the fact they waited till February probably didn't help either. Just disgusting.
  4. But we kind of need something top shelf, which arguably reduces what's left of the FA field to Moto and Snell, and the Moto prospects are shaky at best.
  5. Boy, that Steve Cohen sure is an enthusiastic, proactive sonofagun to fly off to meet with Moto, huh? Along with having the most money...
  6. What's unsettling is that we were talking exactly like this 1 year ago.
  7. Double misunderstanding. We were talking about Moto signing with the Mets.
  8. Who knows, maybe 2 of the 4 pitchers will hit. King has pitched pretty well the last 2 years and made the transition to starting very nicely. He's been somewhat injury-prone, but what else is new. Sure is a different-looking package from what the Sox got for Betts.
  9. By all accounts Ohtani is very methodical, has already narrowed the field to two, and it'll be this Sunday.
  10. OF is Judge, Soto and Verdugo, Stanton is DH?
  11. Yeah, if Moto is excited by the idea of playing in NY, it's already game over, man.
  12. Yep. Our disappointment shall be drawn out a while yet.
  13. Right, in the fashion of a guy chasing girls all night but going home alone...
  14. I guess if I'm going to continue beating Mr. Dithers to death I'll have to let you do the same with the Kia joke...
  15. Well, the Soto trade was a pretty big deal and Ohtani should be picking his team any day now. As for the Sox, it's still quiet times...
  16. We all have our own personal takes, but the indecision thing makes a lot of sense to me when you look at the history.
  17. True, but I think Sox fans have earned the right to be skeptical and worried this offseason until/unless something good happens.
  18. Re turning down the move to LA - I think this might be one of those cases where 'family considerations' really did play into it - because otherwise it made no sense at all.
  19. Another one off the board.
  20. Yeah, especially if they also get Yamamoto or Snell...
  21. The reason the word 'dithering' is getting tossed around so much is that in the aftermath of Bloom's firing a picture emerged of him being indecisive, with suggestions that this was one of the main reasons he was terminated. To me the '22 and '23 deadlines were very similar in that the team did not decisively buy or decisively sell. The only difference is that in '22 there was a flurry of minor moves and in '23 there was but one.
  22. Yes, but it's important that we come up with the precise term for what Bloom did in '22!
  23. Does seem like a bit more than the Sox got for 1 year of Betts.
  24. To answer my own question, here are the 2022 bWAR's of the 3 "major acquisitions" Hosmer 1.1 McGuire 0.9 Pham 0.3 Total 2.3 Average 0.8 3 guys who barely exceeded replacement level last year. That's what Bloom produced at the deadline, while dropping Vaz, whose 2022 bWAR was 2.1. That's as lateral as you can get.
